Basically the poem Stanza, by Stanze explains Gaara's child hood in Pt.1:

Stanza 1: Gaara is born through Pain, Struggle, and Evil (Shukaku)

Stanza 2: Shukaku taking over causing the Sand Village devastation

Stanza 3: Referring to Gaara's Blood-Lust in Part 1

Stanza 4: Gaara is oblivious to the unknown (Love)

Stanza 5: Gaara's Tailed-Beast (Shukaku) enables him sleepless days, and nights due to Insomnia causing stress; stress played a part in corrupting Gaara's judgement

Stanza 6: Naruto's powerful spirit led Gaara onto a new path, leaving behind his lonely, blood past.
