either way claiming gives us clarity about the alignment of who and what was lynched.

the reason we are claiming our vengekills is because deaths dont have flips in the setup so we only know a scum was lynched if 1 person died. or if we as town all claim a vengekill the mafia leaders have to claim their goon or a succesful lynch or vig shot catches the scum upon flip.
