The Thunderbird is a creature from Native American myths, that was used to represent power, and a powerful spirit. It's said to be able to control lightning and thunder, and spread prosperous crops and health.

Nezuko approached the Nanabi Jinchuriki, and bowd out of respect. This woman was extremely powerful, and Nezuko knew she'd need a lot of power to find her brother Tanjiro. She wanted Fuu to go first, to see the woman's abilities.
