I know you didn't ask me but here's my input anyway: I don't think you two are on a scumteam together. I don't think, if you were planning this interaction or whatever, that you would have them misunderstand what you were saying. That's a decent bit of forward thinking for this early in the game.

At the risk of sounding largely hypocritical, the job of the town is not to concentrate on sounding "towny", it's to catch scum through reads.
