hmm, the growth in those 2.5 years could have been substantial, he also would have been yet another troublesome obstacle for obito/akatsuki considering strength and in depth knowledge of them plus his own desires for sasuke etc...good question!

I understand that this is a more or less an obvious post, but I thought that it could be useful in trying to Better understand the breadth of Hashirama's techniques.

Since Yamato has Hashirama's DNA and through that is able to use Wood Release, is it safe to assume that any techniques Yamato can use, Hashirama can use with at least the same proficiency like these: Wood Release: Four-Pillar House Technique Wood Release: Four-Pillar Prison Technique Wood...

To piggy back off of what Blaze said, naruto asks kakashi about shikamaru and chouji's techniques, and yamato's reply is that they should teach him about "yin" and "yang" later here: As far as I know, those types of techniques aren't elemental releases, just ninjutsu. Food for thought.
