8 trigrams twin lion fists

What does the 8 trigrams twin lion fists do? In the anime they made it out to be a more powerful version of gentle fist but considering how Kishimoto designed it, I doubt that's the case. Now that Hinata is getting a bigger role in the manga,I think we will actually see this jutsu in action.

Don't think I've ever seen that attack in the manga.

It is a canon technique! Hinata attempted to hit Pain with it, but she was shinra tenseid to the ground before it hit.

Either it is a devastating physical punch, or it absolutely shuts down the chakra nertwork/organs of anywhere it hits.....it just looks so devastating

I had a theory that seeing it it a gentle fist tech, that it would cause serious internal damage to the chackra system if it hit you. Maybe the lions can actually rip out your chackra with their jaws? I dont know but from the looks of it we wont be able to see this move being used unless there is a 3rd naruto series, I really dont know why kishi would make a good ultimate jutsu for a character and not let it be tested.

The lions are literal, the chackra around her hands, is literally forming lions heads

Well every visible and somewhat shaped manifestation of chakra technique is powerful and have a high destructive power . . . so baically its a hell of a punch but not sure how strong.

I'm kind of curious what it being a "gentle step" as opposed to a "gentle fist" would have to do with it. That would seem to imply a kick, or perhaps a Hyuuga art for increasing maneuverability (for all the good it did against Pain). ... But the "Twin Lions Fists" move would certainly imply a punch (and the visible lion-heads of chakra around her hands would seem to reinforce this).

So I'm a bit confused.

If the games have it right, it's basically a one-hit "**** you" that does tons of damage.

If the anime's expansion of Hinata's role has any relevance - it would seem to increase maneuverability and have some amount of increased damage.

Who knows what Kishimoto had in mind when he made that attack (or maybe he didn't have anything in mind... he just made up an attack that he planned to cut off before she got to use it).
