But yeah Shikamaru would go up if only one could be picked.

shikamaru is a brilliant strategist, which is why he was placed as proxy commander of the long-range division next to gaara in case something happened to him.

this is probably the ranks of the other k11 (besides Neji and Naruto) as of now:

Shino - special jounin
Kiba - high chuunin
Hinata - high chuunin/special jounin
Chouji - low jounin
Sakura - low jounin
Sai - mid jounin
Shikamaru - special jounin
Tenten - special jounin
Lee - special jounin
