Marijuana, cocaine, heroin, acid ect is illegal yet it only takes me 5 minutes to get possession of any of those. Like I said prior banning assault weapons will not fix or help this issue. It only takes weapons out of civilians hands and opens a black market up.
But, if they were legalized, you wouldn't even need to leave the house, because you could make it yourself. See what I did there? Making these illegal, has ultimately made it harder to acquire. Making Auto and Sub-Auto machine guns illegal, would make them harder to acquire.

Anways, we're way Off-topic. So, I'm going to leave it at that.

You don't consider the multiple scenarios that go into play when someone shoots up a school/mall or whatever it may be. You immediately blame gun laws instead of looking at the whole picture.
You are missing the point. Yes, changing gun laws won't fix the problem completely but it will greatly reduce the amount of casualties. Let's say the shooter from the Aurora shootings was armed with a knife instead of a gun, do you really think that there would be the same amount of people dead? No, there wouldn't, it would be a lot easier for someone to disarm another person with a knife instead of a gun.

Stricter gun laws doesn't mean taking them away from people altogether, it could be better education for the people wanting to purchase a gun, better background checks on the people as well as regulating them better and also having them locked up in a safe place. I mean let's face it, there is no need to have a military class weapon legal for the public use. Don't say that people will just buy them off the internet either, other country's stop this for the most part so I'm sure that America would be able to do the same.

Tragic. I don't care what your opinion is on the gun laws , but there is no denying that something IS wrong. A lot of such shootings involve mentally troubled people. It's sad that this section of society gets minimum attention.

Seriously what do you all expect?

Gun laws will not do a damn thing. People will still carry around guns illegal or legal.

And shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't we be able to protect our loved ones if need be?

Maybe there's some kind of strange government mind control experiment going on

I say we allow certain light arms, but limit the ammo you can posses. Dozen bullets are more then enough to protect your home and family.

You don't need a auto/sub-auto machine gun to protect your family. No one said to take away your right own weapons, but it's stupid that civilians are aloud to arm themselves with military grade weapons.

If you can't protect yourself, or your family with a pistol/bolt action, then you shouldn't even be using a weapon.

The fact of the matter is that the United States of America is in so far with this "gun law/psychological warfare" crap it's far too late to come to a solution. History shows that we as a country, as a nation, love to hate, judge, kill, and belittle each other. All of you talking about gun laws and facts about gun ownership in our country and yours should know that whatever you say about the laws or facts, mean nothing.... absolutely nothing. It's the people who commit these absurdities, and it will always be the people. Our country has so many negative influences and corruption upon not only the youth, but every single person that lives in this country. We cannot simply abolish gun laws, or enforce psychological examinations among every citizen. Do you not realize that we have been killing each other ever since our great nation was born? Stop talking about the main idea and start paying attention to the details. The answers right in front of our faces.

If they take away guns, criminals will find other means. By using a gun, the law can track you from the make of the bullet, the make of the gun that fired it, the signature that the gun left on the bullet, and the serial number on the gun used. Plus, if you use a gun, there is residue left on the perpetrators skin. Taking away guns will solve the shootings, probably. However, it could cause worse things to happen. Vehicular manslaughter may go up for one. Using a knife, a bomb, or any other kind of weapon can become the new "gun". Guns have their good aspects and their bad aspects, but we can't get rid of something that is most often used to stop something much greater. Even if they were to prohibit guns, what's to stop criminals from getting them anyways? Gun running, smuggling, black market sales... These are all ways for criminals to get the weapons they need. The law does not stop them now, and it won't stop them then. What most people do not realize is that guns are the reason why most of us are alive today. They protect us just as much as the hurt us, like a double edged sword. Yes, this was a tragedy, and yes it should not have happened. I am human and I can see that that was a tragedy. But we can not take away guns or make the laws more strict, for criminals do not follow the law now, and will not follow it then. The real problem is not the laws, but the criminals. Its late, and I do not wish to get into a debate about that particular subject, so I will leave my statement as it is.

I'm just worried that most of the people are putting more stock into the gun than into the one who pulled the trigger. It's the person that needs fixing, not the gun, or the law.

Does anyone ever wonder why so many messed up people are turning up now? It's gotten worse and worse. People are finding more ways to kill and inflict damage onto others; wether it be with a gun, or with a knife, or with any other kind of weapon.

America's become a messed up place and is spawning extremely troubled people. The only way to stop the killings is to stop the killers before they become killers. How to do that is a question beyond my understanding.

i heard that most gunmen killed themselves from the actual horror of killing someone
I'm sure there are multiple factors involved.

I imagine it has a lot to do with their psychological state. Anyone who goes on a shooting rampage like that is mentally disturbed. Sociopaths don't even kill people without a line of reasoning that is hauntingly logical (it's usually that they value factors in their logic differently than we do... human life represents a far more material value to them and allows them to weigh it against material and/or political gain).

They run off on some irrational decisions and suddenly come to the realization that they are about to be caught by the police (they will run out of ammo at some point, and they are likely not living up to their expectations of how it would go down). Once they are caught - almost all control is removed from them - so they take the one act that gives them a degree of control.... end it. It's a somewhat logical but rash decision (which fits with the series of rash decisions that led to the shooting in the first place).

You don't need a auto/sub-auto machine gun to protect your family. No one said to take away your right own weapons, but it's stupid that civilians are aloud to arm themselves with military grade weapons.
You've really never spent time with these weapons, have you?

I'll agree that there are a great number of people with firearms who I do not trust to own them.

That said... there are people alive who, in my analysis, represent only a detriment to those around them by being alive. If we want to start taking away firearms based on necessity - I don't see why we should allow people to have life when they are not using it responsibly... and especially if they can't demonstrate a need for such a thing.

If you can't protect yourself, or your family with a pistol/bolt action, then you shouldn't even be using a weapon.
You see... the problem is that firearm violence is largely sourced at handguns. Shotguns kill as many people as rifles in this nation (and the type of rifle isn't often specified - it's more than likely a bolt action hunting rifle associated with a hunting accident).

Now, I do want 'my' 6.8mm ACR with ACOG sights and 6+ 30 round magazines. I'd prefer it have the Navy trigger group as it was designed - but I'll settle for the semi-auto version (full auto, while mostly for creating a lot of noise and pissing away ammo, does have a few tactical uses).

I'm also fairly well trained with such a weapon and carried one with me during my deployment overseas (well, a similar class of weapon). It's something I'm comfortable with.

Though, bluntly - it's not just about "protecting my home." It's about protecting my community from others. At the end of the day - the people I have are those around me. Governments wax and wane, prosper and crumble... but the needs of people to work together for mutual survival... that doesn't change. Towns and cities have paid taxes to dozens of different governments in their time... businesses have survived longer than some political empires.

I will defend what works from that which does not work but wishes to extort a reward.

That is what the 2nd amendment exists for.

These fools who go on shooting rampages will not be allowed to jeopardize this inherent right to self-preservation. I recognize that no effort can prevent such individuals from being born into this world and making such decisions... and accept that there is risk in this life. I do not look to governments and rules to solve the problems created by those who defy both.

And I certainly reject the notion that more laws will help to prevent the breaking of other rules.

I'd rather my children grow up hearing about a school shooting here or there than for them to grow up in a world where they have to have a license to urinate in a public bathroom. Because that's where this nonsense is going. I draw the line here - with secession standing in reserve.
