First of all: Thank you OP for that remark. It seems like a lot of people agree to it so I'm sure we'll take it up and talk the issue over with all mods/gmods. Now, I've only skimmed through the first page but already a lot of post annoy me for going off-topic, as well as simply going up another attempt to make the mods look bad. Sorry if you think that I'm acting all powerful again, but honestly, some arguments just make no sense especially considering most of the arguments given are way too contextual/situational to have any sense on a global view of what they claim to mean.
ya it irks me when a mod closes a thread that doesn't violate the rules also the fact it takes them five minutes to do that but it can take up to two hours to close a thread where a guy is posting porno pics and mutilated bodies pics
priorities mods
First of all: Your interpretation of "doesn't violate the rules" versus the actual meaning of it is a different thing. Do you honestly think we don't have guidelines that we have seen/got from admins? Sure, it's always a bit personal and a gray area, but 99% of the threads that are actually closed aren't. 1% is. It would be extremely unlucky if every thread of yours that got closed, or that you think got closed unfairly was in that 1%. What are the odds?
Secondly, you seem to not know (or forget, take your pick) that a normal mod can not simply delete everything and everywhere what he wants. I can't go around in the RP section for example, and delete a thread with x-rated content. I'm not an RP mod, I don't have powers there. I know it sounds stupid, bit this is to go in against any kind of possible abuse. So if a troll posts something, and I'm online as the only mod but I can't do anything about it, you can hardly go around throwing the blame like you do now. Like I said, it's situational. Only global moderators can actually moderate everywhere (and administrators of course). Even then, we all need sleep and we all have our timezones and try to co-operate as best we can. Please keep that in mind (this entire reply) before making such a statement.
as much as i agree and support this post, i'm still going to say its pretty pointless to make. these self thought "gods" of this forum do what they want no matter what and then cry and throw out infractions/bans when you call them out on it. trust me i get enough of them even when i don't even call out mods by name.
best thing you can do is not care. they won't show it but they hate it when you don't care about pointless infractions/bans they give you. its ridiculous that they can act the part they claim not to be and then "punish" for calling them out on it but remember that in reality, it doesn't matter. whatever they do has no effect whatsoever in life.
hell i'll probably get more infractions for this but just do what i do and ignore it bro
We don't do what we want no matter what. I've already explained it a million times, we do this job FOR FREE. We get nothing in return (except a bigger avatar, wowie). We get flamed, accused, insulted under false accusations. Sometimes we get a thank you from people. That's the reason we actually do this job, because of the thank you. Don't go around calling mods biased and self-proclaimed gods. We follow the guidelines and rules set on the forum, which you agreed to when entering it. If you don't like the rules, no one is forcing you to stay. I've never infracted or banned anyone that came to me personally to talk about something I did that upset them. Most of the time I even help them out. What you're going about is making threads just to get supporters on your sides (which are trolls most of the times) so you can say: "See, I told you that you suck at doing your job"). Just pm a mod, be polite like you want that mod to be to you and I'm sure they'll respond in the same way. They might not do what you ask, but if that's the way it is, than that's it. I don't go writing around letters to the parliament every other day because I hate the fact that they made cigarettes more costly, or made milk more expensive.
I understand exactly where you are coming from and i hope whoever is in charge of this website corrects them or reminds mods and admins to remember exactly where there authority lies and make sure they stop stepping over the boundries of said duty. There actions are pathetic and they wonder why they receive little to no respect. It takes two to tango my fellow admins by thrusting your post on us and shutting down threads on whim leaves little to no room for us to do so.Respect is a two way street by no means should you think even for a second that our respect should be indefinite.
And with a post like this you simply again made it so that mods loose respect for you whenever they see your name. The only difference is we need to stay neutral towards you despite what you just said, but you can do what ever you want to us and get away with it. That alone should make you think for a second and realize that your post is just as insulting to us as any other "insult" we make to you. I mean, overstepping our boundaries? Read the part about "you agreed to these rules when you entered the website and made an account". You're overstepping your boundaries by saying stuff like this and thinking you can always just do and say what you want. Calling what we do is pathetic, and why? Because of some infractions you got? A ban or two, here and there? A thread closed or trashed in the General Discussion or Naruto Discussion forum? Trust me, we won't go around to close, infract, ban, trash, edit or as much as click on a thread just because we seem to hate you. We have enough stuff to do. So if some members (as I don't say all members are the same) could just be nice on threads, don't go off-topic, don't spam memes all day, or reply solely with the intent to flame or insult someone else and fully know they'll start a flame wars, they can expect us to stop giving out warnings/infractions/bans, trash threads, close them and maybe even get the admins so far to actually not need moderators. Unfortunately, this isn't utopia, and like in the real world you can't get rid of your neighborhood friendly forum police.
Now, I apologize for going off topic (though I did respond to Uchihabrat), but in all earnest let me just make a summary:
- "Have a problem with a mod's judgement, but haven't read the rules?" -> DON'T MAKE A THREAD ABOUT IT, read the rules.
- Still have a problem with a mod his judgement after reading the rules? -> DON'T MAKE A THREAD ABOUT IT, go to the mod, be polite and ask what happened and I'm sure he'll respond politely to you and you can solve it out without any harm from either sides.
- Still think the mod is wrong, despite having read the rules and talked to him in a friendly way? -> contact a global moderator about the issue and talk to them about it.
