Edo madara stated that hashirama is only able to defeat him, THE SAME HASHIRAMA that he fought at the final valley.

In the manga Hiruzen is above them stated in the manga.

Agreed Madara wins with negligible difficulty. Prime Hiruzen might be strong but Kishi wasn't intending him to be on such a high level where he has the power to compete with a man who makes multiple kage levels look like ants.
