From my knowledge Earth is:
-The planet to which we live on
-The outermost layer of the earth's crust
-A composition of decaying organic matter, soil, rocks, minerals and much deeper down crystals, gems of all sorts.
Earth is essentially a grand scale mix of all the elements that can be found but in solid form. It is what we walk, build and live upon. There was always and will be earth under us, even under an ocean.

Hmm, to be fully honest - i'm not completely sure
it all depends on the situation, if you use it to just purely gain some distance then its not classed as a sub
Whereas, if you use it to dodge other attacks, it may be seen as a sub

(Doton: Doryuudan) - Earth Style: Earth Dragon Bomb

Descripton:The ninja will do the necessary hand seals and create a dragon from the river of mud made after using the Doryuu Taiga technique. This dragon will then spew mud projectiles from its mouth,best when used with Dragon Flame Bullet to turn the mud into lava .
From the mud you have created, manipulate its shape into a dragon made out of mud which can launch mud projectiles
if you have the fire affinity, you can also add fire to create lava
