After chapter 615 it can be assumed that Naruto was about to lose his will after seeing a friend die for him right in front of his eyes for the first time. Luckily Naruto had Hinata (screw you NaruSaku fans :D !!!!!) to smack him back into reality. Obito was alone for months, all he had was two Hashirama cell clones and an old man spewing bullshit for months on end. He never had that support, a friend right there to bring him back to the light before it was too late. And Rin was WAYYYYY closer to Obito than Neji was to Naruto so....yeah, hopefully people will be more open minded about Obito's fall into darkness.

it's different. Circumstances surrounding Rin's death are VERY different than a single entity slaughtering thousands of his comrades. just sayin'

But Obito experienced war too, and Neji's death is what would've driven Naruto over the edge. He didn't lose anyone close to him and that's what this is all about. Naruto thought he could protect all his friends the same way Obito believed he and kakashi could protect Rin...but we all know how that ended. So when you think about it from both sides of the spectrum you can begin to understand Obtio at least a little more.

I do like how we're getting to see more of Obito. My worry was we weren't gonna see much except explosions this explosions that and madara bitch slapping obito... Know i expect to see the biggest info/change when obito n kakashi fight (..or i hope to god they do - their like naruto n sasuke)

Seeing Naruto persevere might lead to his change.
And I think Kakashi is starting to understand why Obito changed the way he did. I'm not saying he's gonna forgive him or join him, but he might start to understand what Rin's life and death meant to him.

I think this is why Obito went bad:
basically you guys remember when mizuki told naruto he was the nine tails? could you imagine what would have happened had iruka not been there? thats obito. Obito by the looks of it did not have a fatherly figure in his life, also by the looks of it did not have any parents. The uchiha clan probably rejected him for all of his life because of his constant failures and i think Minato mostly focused on Kakashi instead of him. So Rin was pretty much the only one who acknowledged him in his life which is why he cared about her so much.

If Obito was indeed an orphan then, Rin, Kakashi and Minato meant everything to him and desperately tried to prove himself to them. So it wasnt how rin died, it was the circumstances in which she did. To see your best friend kill your other best friend and your sensei was nowhere in sight must drive you pretty insane. Obito had seen the horrors of the third shinobi world war and this reflected the words that Madara and Zetsu told him, and no one was there to tell him to snap out of it.

And do you guys remember Obito's words? "Those who break the rules are trash, but those who abandon their comrades are worse than trash! If I'm going to be called trash either way, I'd rather break the rules! And if that somehow makes me anything less than a real shinobi, then I'll crush all of the so-called "real" shinobi!" His philosophy was broken before his very eyes, which is why he tells Naruto his ideals are useless.

So long story short, Obito did not have people like Jiraiya, Kakashi or Iruka like Naruto did, which is why Obito is doing this

This isn't a thread on whether he will die or not -_-

He's one of the main antagonist of Shippuden..redemption or not, chances are that he will die.

nah I can understand why Obito became this way perfectly well. it's just that Tobi being Izuna or the elder son, would have made for a much more brilliant backstory imo. at least he's being badass again these last few chapters, as he seemed to have lost his eloquence and badass attitude since he lost his mask.

Yeah man I disagree with Tobi's identity as I was a die hard Tobito fan since he was first introduced but to each his own. Izuna had potential, not so sure about the elder son though lol. To me he never stopped being a badass it's just that when he lost the mask it also took away from the mysterious part of his character.

It also happened during the fight against Pain as the Kyuubi was about to develop until the 9th tail. He also didn´t know, what to do and he even decided to let the Kyuubi deal with him until Minato went to rescue him. And before that he thought Pain woud´ve killed Hinata, what made him really mad, so he lost control about the Kyuubi, who went on a rampage then.

But well i don´t like Obito :D But there is a chance that Naruto can change him (like he did with Nagato / Konan) We will see in some weeks ;) Maybe we will get to know, what really happened to Rin .... that her death might´ve been something like an accident or was unavoidable. I think there will still be much developing for Obito so let´s wait for the next chapters ;)

Exactly, the fans went on a rampage when it was officially revealed that Rin's death was what changed Obito as it was completely far fetched. They completely ignore the fact that Naruto could easily snap at the sight of his friend getting killed. That was a perfect example, that was another time he had that support to help pull him back into shape. Obito didn't have that and that's where the paths differ. Just imagine what Naruto would've done if he witnessed Sasuke kill Sakura.

don't get me wrong, I really like Obito's character. It's just that Tobi was always shown as the one who uses hatred to his own advantage, a brilliant manipulator with a wealth of knowledge. I always thought of him as an old man.

I imagined him as the main villian, and the one using Madara. Him being Izuna would have resulted in a great backstory of him planning stuff with Madara, the giving of eyes issue, the hashirama fight, and why he ultimately decided to betray him. it had the potential to be a very rich backstory.

That said, it's really good to see that Obito is taking matters into his own hands and not letting madara boss him around. breaking point for those two is approaching imo
