I think Hiruzen.. Ha had much more stamina so he could do more techniques in his prime. And it was stated he knows all jutsu from Konoha, so I think that his Katon techniques was on Madara's level. We never have seen his strongest techniques but he has lots of chance beat Oonoki..

And Oonoki surely wouldn't use Jinton at the beginning because he has to know that Hiruzen isn't stupid to let kill hill himself on the first attack..

Hiruzen was stated to be the strongest kage of his time which include ppl like 3rd raikage, onoiki, yagura and 3rd kazekage the strongest kazekage and was also stated to be to strongest hokage by iruka. If the guy is shown in part 2 i'm sure he would be very strong.

Even Orochimaru who tried to destroy Konoha acknowledge Hiruzen as the one called the God of Shinobi and the Professor who knew all the jutsus of the Leaf. When an enemy acknowledges you, you know it's true.

Prime Hiruzen has NO feats... so I don't know why people are coming into the thread talking about feats vs feats.. tihs would obviously become a thread of hype vs feats..

and by hype vs feats Hiruzen wins..

You can't put someone with no manga time up against someone with feats without using another method to assess their strength..It's ilogical to do that..

If you did, white fang would be < Tenten and just about every other ninja, despiste the fact that Minato hyped him to be stronger than the sannin...

Biased NB opinions, nothing more. People are selective of hype, especially if it favours their favourite character but disregard others completely.

Hiruzen, from both hype and the writer's intention (hype serves a purpose of acting as a mouth piece for what can't be displayed) on who is stronger, wins this match up for me.

Exactly what I've been saying for so long -_-, there is a main story line and it must continue , because of that there are characters who may not have any or alot of screen time to depict their strengths... Hype is an important tool for a writer because it helps give a picture on how strong the individual was without actually showing the fight....I dont need to see White fang fight , I know he was a genius who ninjas feared on sight...I am aware of what level he was at, i'm content with that...

Good catch on the only Oonki can beat Muu part, hype is just undermined when it comes to forums/discussions. Anyone who isn't a part of a Naruto site has a less biased view since there's no culture of underrating and overrating of certain characters.

The amount of Kakuzu threads i had to sift through where he was being underrated, one was pitting him against Neji -_-

Hanzo is another, probably the most underrated character of all time. His appearance in the manga was underwhelming, if anything it damaged the famous hype which surrounded him. While i acknowledge this was when his skills deteriorated, most people seem to overlook this point and give me illogical arguments like "Mifune solos" xd.
