Why do people think Nagato is dumb?

Nagato is my least favorite character but he is not "dumb"

you have to learn all the hand signs and master all of the natures other wise they are useless then you need an immense chakara just to use the ocular jutsu and to be able to perform all of the styles at once or in the same fight multiple times

He was the leader of Akaktsuki(sorta) I always imagined him to be the most experienced/deadliest/smartest. We haven't seen him in battle as much as Itachi, especially since in every battle with Itachi he has some partner/zetsu to compliment him. Pain always fought solo.

Besides, I think it's because he looks frail and young compared to the rest of the villains/akatsuki.

He's not dumb, but when most powerhouses (itachi, minato, hashirama, madara, sasuke, kakashi) are also geniuses, i don't think he really stacks up.

Out of the peopel you mentioned, I would say that only Madara and Hashirama are actual powerhouses, though Sasuke could be added to the list considering how heavily he relies on the MS/EMS. The rest use their chakra control and intelligence to end a fight since most of the more powerful techniques they use drain their chakra reserves greatly.

Powerhouses would be able to keep up super-strong attacks with litttle effect on their stamina/chakra reserves.

He is pretty smart but no genius. I would even say Darui is smarter than him.

You have no evidence to back up your statement. Your bring a little ridiculous lol Nagato controlling akatsuki, the rain village, never losing a fight, soloing villages, gaining respect all around the world, being calm and collective, etc etc all show is is very intelligent. I think he just as smart as Obito.

it doesnt matter what anyone says, he was smart , a genius , i consider him to be so much of a genius to be in the same league as itachi in intelligence, he made the perfect combination of 6 paths, and had control of akatsuki bar 1 for a long time, and as the "leader" he needed to be overpowered, and smart which means he was obviously very smart.

dumb? thats funny if anything nagato was the most strategic one in the akatski, the way he planned his attack on konaha, the way he prolonged the leaf during the rescue garra ark with the team guy clones that emerged from the seals,and the itachi and kisame clones the fought team guy and team kakashi(yes that was nagatos strategy's)the way he ran the hidden rain village AND the akatski you have't to be smart to do all this people,he was no where near dumb, he was just easily manipulated, but tactics,strategy's,observing,and planning came very easy to nagato, just go back and look at the pein arc if you didn't see it,not to mention the six paths of pein how he coordinated to do a specific task ON A WHOLE VILLAGE AT THE SAME TIME,twice, 1st being the hidden rain, second being the hidden leaf.
