A TEENAGED boy who ran away from home after his father took away his Xbox game console has been found dead in a field.

Brandon Crisp, 15, took off on his bicycle from his Barrie, Ontario home on October 13, sparking a huge police search with help of 1600 volunteers that turned up no clues except for his abandoned bicycle with a flat tyre.

Xbox-maker Microsoft and others had offered a $C50,000 ($62,000) reward for information on his whereabouts.

Yesterday, police said only that hunters had found a body in the search area.

The daily Toronto Star said on its website that Brandon's parents had been notified it was their son, and students at his school were told the news at an assembly.

Brandon's father previously said he had removed Brandon's Xbox after noticing changes in his behaviour since Brandon started playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare online.

The boy started skipping school, stealing money and ignoring his studies, his father said.

In an interview with the daily Globe and Mail, the boy's father, Steve Crisp, said he had not known how important the gaming system was to his son and how he would react when it was taken away.

Experts commented that gamers may form bonds with fellow online players.

"This had become his identity, and I didn't realise how in-depth this was until I took his Xbox away,'' Mr Crisp told the Globe and Mail.

"That's like cutting his legs off.''

"This is such an issue that hits every parent out there, with video games that are starting to control our kids' lives,'' he said.

"I just took away his identity, so I can understand why he got so mad and took off. Before, I couldn't understand why he was taking off for taking his game away.''

And later on we have problems because some brat died because of the games and we the real gamers recieave bad rep from the comunity

And shouldnt we have world news and news stand section

Unfortuantly video game addiction is seen as a joke. It's a deep psychological addiction mixed in exactly with bonds and identity. It's scary, I know. I have been addicted to games where it affected every aspect of my life. I now don't have an xbox at my place. I might when I feel that I've calmed down a bit, and set restrictions but the previous 100 or so hours I played a week was going too far.

wow...this is why people need a life outside of video games. now i'll admit i play video games a lot, but i also have a life besides them. I go to the shooting range with my roommates, hang with friends and roomies the normal stuff of a college student, minus the drinking and the drugs

wow... i just dont think its right that they blame the game for his behavior...

He was skipping school and stealing money and losing focus on studies because of a video game?!!!! No... its because he is 15 and going through "changes" and mood swings and everything that goes along with it...

FIRST OF ALL! Call of Duty 4 is rated M for Mature for a REASON!!!!!!!!!!!

15 yr olds shouldnt be playing them... the parents are retarded for letting their kid have games that he shouldnt...

Well i think it serves them right... one less whiny little kid online with the big boys...

that might seem cruel to you but i did my college Senior seminar on Video Game Violence and the causes and connections to delinquency... so sorry if i dont have more empathy toward it...

Everyone is so quick to point fingers.... its preposterous...

I play mature games alot...
so why am i not stealing money? why did i make it through college successfully? (Just Graduated)
HMMMMM...

I don`t care what people say, I`m addicted to my Xbox 360 and my games, I have a lot of friends online and I like playing games with`em.
and that`s it...
But I`m still outside sometimes with my friends and eventhough I play Mature games before my time, I don`t care, like someone said before I don`t steal money, I`m still going to school, so I don`t see the problem with being addicted to my Xbox....^_^
but if my xbox had been stolen or something I`ve been preety mad, my Xbox meens a lot to me...end of story ^_^

Dude that's nothing. We have had a story locally a little way back about a chop that listened to slip knot. Later on he got so obsessed with them that, he took a couple of masks to his school and told his friends that is time to take over the school and make it theirs, to put up the masks.

His friends later refused to do that, and he went berserk, he started chopping kids at school to death with his sword.

And now the media wanted to blame the music that he listened to as the root cause of his problems!!!!!

Even though I agree to certain extents that Music and games might have an influence on peoples behaviour, but they are not responsible for peoples actions.

Now a couple of people are dead because of 1 sick fnck!!!

I agree with you point. I dont think its right to blame video games either. The parnts should have taken more of an interest in thier son's life, and maybe this tragedy could have been avoided.

What I do not agree with is your statement saying "it serves them right". No parent should ever have to have the police come to thier house and tell them thier son is dead in a field...EVER! What you said is extremely cruel. This was a tragedy, and I agree that the boy had issues, but No one deserves that.

Pardon me if this seems like flaming, but I'm going to have to say that that was most likely the stupidest thing I've heard.

Are you that boy? No. Did you experience his exact mindset? No. Do you have a real grasp on the thing known as Video Game Addiction that has actually been recognized as a mental disease just like alcoholism and drug addiction? No.

Just because you've gone through, led, taken part in a seminar doesn't make you an expert on the situation. If you had any real knowledge of the affliction itself and the subject of Psychology then you'd hardly be taking such a close minded and ignorant standpoint.

This kid was addicted to video games, he acted the way he did to support his addiction and habit, just as an alcoholic or drug addict would do. He didn't do it because he's fifteen, that form of action is not common to teenagers, at least not to his extreme. This was a case of undiagnosed addiction. It is a disease, just like alcohol and is recognized as such. Don't believe me then read up on it. Proctor Rehabilitaion Center in Peoria Illinois (One of the leading addiction research and rehabilitation centers in the WORLD) has recognized the severity of the thing known as Video Game addiction and what follows. They even admit and care for those with video game addiction, just as they would drug, alcohol, gambling and porn addicts.

It is a serious matter, and that highly uneducated and extremist view you just set forth takes no step in the path of actually solving the issue. So step off of the pedestal and realize it for what it is. Human life is not anything to be taken lightly, especially when it was lost due to a terminal mental disease that plagues many youth throughout the world.

And before you'd say anything about me not being qualified to make this statement you're wrong. I've got my P.H.D in Psychology and Human Development with a specialization in addiction and mental trauma research.

So make sure to read up on studies, treatments, and cases before making such a blatantly ignorant comment like this, it does nothing to help a problem that does exist.
