Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Features and Thoughts
A demo of Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 was available to play at Hyper Japan 2012 Christmas.
As you probably know, Level Infinity attended Hyper Japan at its 2012 Christmas event on November the 23rd – 25th. While there, we experienced a wide array of cultural activities and saw some amazing things. If you haven’t seen it already check out our feature of the event: Hyper Japan 2012 Christmas
Anyway, you came here to find out some more information on the new “Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3″ game due out some time in the spring of 2013. At Hyper Japan we got to try out the game so now we can give you our thoughts and detail some of the new features you can expect to see in the game.
First here’s the video footage we’ve taken of our staff having some fun!
The Features
Combat
If you’ve played any of the other Ninja Storm games then you’ll be glad to hear this one still contains the standard control system, that being separate commands for your standard combo’s, your support characters and ninjutsu etc etc.
Substitution
Ninja Storm 3 has also continued the new Substitution system introduced in “Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations”, from our testing it does seem as though they have slightly sped up the reload times for the technique, though this isn’t confirmed.
New Team Attacks
Ninja Storm 3 has introduced a new feature in regards to the support characters, whereas you can now hold the attack command down to initiate a kind of stance, which will then cause your character to lunge at the enemy and give you the option to quickly send out the support characters and get in some free hits. Of course Ninja Storm 3 still has your Team based ultimate techniques.
New Awakening System
The game has also revamped the “Awakening” mode and introduced a few new features. First of all, when in Awakening mode, your support character slots are replaced by an extra technique(S) that can really get you out of a pinch.
The most important new feature is the “Quick Awakening”, which is a specific command that can be entered to initiate awakening mode at any point during the match, so you don’t need to be low on health to use Awakening! The downside to this is that choosing this option decreases the bar of your chakra gauge over time until you cancel the awakening, and will slowly increase again when in normal state.
From our testing we currently don’t know if all Quick Awakening commands are the same across the board.
Our Thoughts
While we played our little thumbs to the bone, we made sure to ask other players what we thought of the game, and we can tell you there were positive reactions from everyone we talked to. Many thought the game was “good” with others going as far as “amazing”.
Though some people did have a few things to criticise, nothing was a major disappointment. We noticed that a lot of people who hadn’t played Generations did not like or couldn’t grasp the new Substitution system, while some players new to the franchise said the game was great but that all the commands and intricacies made it difficult for newbies.
Level Infinity’s Ben Evans had this to say:
“After seeing many trailers for the game and reading countless updates, I finally got to play the demo for Naruto Shippudden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 and it didn’t disappoint at all! The game was visually stunning to look at and was almost better than watching the anime itself. The gameplay has been improved yet again and has got some cool new features to it. My personal favourite is the Instant Awakening function, instead of having to build up chakra one flick of the right analogue stick and you can activate Awakening. Naruto transforms into his kickass new Bijuu mode that has an epic combo set. The game plays pretty darn good and is much more fluid that the previous games, combining the substitution elements from Generations, it’s gonna give endless hours of gaming time and will be very satisfying for all the fans. Overall this game has all the awesome elements we expect from a Ninja Storm game, and personally I think it’s gonna be one of the best fighting games that’s blessed our consoles to date.”

I wanna point out something.
Notice how naruto's supports are in stand by mode and it seems like kakashi and sakura still use combos
In this two screen shots sakura is doing a combo in stand by mode same as kakashi.
I thought this was pretty awesome.
Oh i almost forgot in s1/s2/ng your support would help you in combos only when their was in attack mode so yea this pretty much is new

I think i'll be playing as the 6 tails that most out of the jinchuriki's, it looks like Killer bee has a new moveset with samehada!
Also I hope they give Kakuzu a new moveset as well, I think he was my least favourite akatsuki member to play with.
