I watched the Japanese version of DBZ so I'm used to Goku's voice. It was meant as a joke, because Goku was a kid in original Dragon Ball series and later in Dragon Ball Z he came up to the tournament all muscly and grown up so Krillin,Bulma,Yamcha, Tien and the others expected he's voice to be changed and more mature but to everyone's surprise it stayed the same. Guess they changed that in English version of the show.
