Hyuga Clan: Direct Descendants of the SO6P
You must be registered for see images
In this thread I will be detailing/debating the theory that the Hyuga Clan are direct descendants of Rikkudou Sennin aka the Sage of the Six Paths. My main tenet in this argument is that the Hyuga are an older clan than the Uchiha clan, therefore having more of a direct connection to the SO6P. I’m NOT debating power levels between the two clans, but rather debating the topic of lineage. In this thread I shall be using:
• Manga Scans
• Assumptions
• Rebuttals
• Contextual theory
in order to provide an intriguing thread which incites discussion and debate on the topic. It’s important to know that ultimately, this is just a theory and unless Kishimoto draws it…its just conjecture, no matter how well argued it is. Anyways enjoy and I’ll see you in the comments section!
Context
Post-timeskip, there hasn’t been much info revealed on the Hyuga clan. We’ve seen brief cameos from Hinata, Neji and unnamed clan members throughout Part II but asides from new jutsu, we’ve haven’t learned anything new regarding the clan. This is interesting because the Byakugan is one of two doujutsu seen actively throughout the series (excluding the Rinnegan). While we have an abundance of intel regarding the Sharingan and it’s mutations…we can’t say the same thing for the Byakugan. Why is it that there is such a lack of info regarding this kekkai genkai? I highly doubt that Kishi forgot/fodderized the Hyuga Clan because they’re the only clan besides the Uchiha that have a doujutsu…and both doujutsu (excluding the Rinnegan) appear to be exclusive to Konoha. Hmmm….
One series of panels in particular has provided the backdrop for this entire argument:

Assumption : The Hyuga are the predecessors of the Uchiha, much like the Uzumaki are the predecessors to the Senju.
Before I continue with this assumption, I would like to elaborate on a few manga panels. There are many NB users that believe the Uzumaki are descended from the Senju, which in all likelihood, is false. Whenever the Uzumaki-Senju relationship is mentioned, the Uzumaki are always stated to be “distant relatives” or of the “same lineage” as the Senju. Nowhere is it implied that the Senju came first. In fact it is heavily implied that the Uzumaki are the older of the two. For example:

This panel shows Hashirama and an unnamed Uzumaki clan member. We all know Hashirama to be the leader of the Senju clan and we can assume that the Uzumaki to the left is the leader of his clan. If the Uzumaki were descended from the Senju, why is it that their leader is clearly older than Hashirama? Hmmm….
With this in mind, we can draw parallels between the Hyuga and the Uchiha. After seeing what Kakashi (a wielder of the Sharingan and a jounin/ex ANBU with extensive knowledge of Konoha’s past) said regarding the origins of the Uchiha (panel shown above in the Context section), we can infer that the Hyuga were the older of the two clans. And if the Sharingan’s origins can be found in the Hyuga clan…then the Hyuga must be related to the SO6P. Also, it is stated in the manga that the Hyuga are the Leaf’s “oldest and greatest bloodline”

Q: If the Uchiha are descended from the Hyuga, then how does their Sharingan have more capabilities/raw power than the Byakugan?
A: This is a question to which I have no immediate answer to. However, we have yet to see the full capabilities of the Byakugan as the secrets regarding its power is safeguarded by Hiashi and the main house. The Sharingan relies on bloodshed and extreme personal sacrifice to advance to MS and EMS. The Hyuga, on the other hand, seem to follow the Will of Fire and are generally peaceful, so who knows what they are truly capable of…Kishimoto will reveal more about the Uzumaki and Hyuga clans as the series enters it’s final chapters. At the moment, however, it does seem that the Uchiha that have attained MS and/or EMS (who are definitely in the minority) have greater raw power than any Hyuga seen thus far…but how much have we actually seen to conclude this?
Theory
I find it no coincidence that Kishimoto has developed the Naruto/Hinata relationship so much in Part II. I also do not find it any coincidence that Neji is the only jounin thus far from his class. The Hyuga have a special role in the whole plot of Naruto and we shall find out more about them as the series progresses. I do have a theory as to why they will be an important part of the overall plot. This theory is based off my belief that the SO6P is actually an Uzumaki. While this can be an entire thread/discussion, I do believe the Sage’s sealing techniques and weapons are reminiscent of the Uzumaki’s techniques and the reason why Uzumakis are great jinchuuriki is because they are from the same clan as the original jinchuuriki, Rikkudou Sennin himself.
We all know that the SO6P had two sons. One retained his spiritual energy and life force and one retained his ocular prowess. However, the fact that he had offspring meant that he had to have a lover … who I believe was a female ancestor of who would eventually become the Hyuga, if not a Hyuga herself. His eldest son’s doujutsu might have derived it’s power from the Juubi and his descendants might have developed the Byakugan as a mutation of his doujutsu. However, the hatred and power from the Juubi that was passed onto the Uchiha might have skipped over the early Hyuga and they retained the want for peace as opposed to power. The Hyuga clan juxtaposes the Uchiha clan perfectly. If the SO6P was supposed to be the “God” of the ninja world, then Naruto is most certainly a Jesus-esque figure… he is the Six Paths reincarnate. It seems as if him and Hinata share a closer bond after the Pain Arc and this would coincide perfectly with the SO6P’s wife being an ancestor or a member of the Leaf’s oldest clan, the Hyuga. The Sharingan mutated from the early doujutsu of the elder son and the Byakugan through time, although the Uchiha retained the hatred of the elder son/Juubi while the Hyuga did not…

Conclusion
The Hyuga clan are an older clan than the Uchiha and because of this they are more directly related to the SO6P. They are not ‘fodder’ and as the series progresses we shall find that they hold an important role in the plot of the Narutoverse.
