I agree with the OP here, it has been stated by Obito himself that Sasuke bares all the hatred of the Uchiha clan, it's the curse of hatred that has followed them since the older brother sought after power as a means to rule. He also said he saw the will of fire burning within Naruto, which has followed the younger brother as well as Hashirama and the Senju since the beginning.

This is another hint at what your saying in the post, and I've often thought the same thing. Minato and Itachi were paths in which Naruto and Sasuke took in order to reach the pinnacle of Hashirama and Madara's power, maybe even beyond that. Right now it seems as though Sasuke is missing something, but I think his journey with Orochimaru will lead him to new power or new knowledge that will help him reach Madara's level.

Naruto already surpassed Minato.
IMO Sasuke also surpassed Itachi at the moment he got EMS, but that's debatable. (But Naruto definitely surpassed Itachi U_U)

Sasuke has EMS. Which means, better eyes, more powerful since they are related.

Make a fusion and you get a super ultra powerful saruto or narusuke

And I kinda agree you're right.
In my opinion, it's because of the new generation surpassing the old one excuse.
In reality I found it more as in some sort of maturity.

And why do I say this? Because of an interview I read from Kishi where he says he needs to write about Sakura needing to grow to surpass Tsunade, something like this. And it was more referring at the maturing state, because to be honest, I don't even see Sakura surpassing Tsunade in endurance, at least not now. I see it as to mature from her experience and something like this (sorry for the parallel, might not be to everyone's taste).

The same matter with Sasuke and Naruto.

They not only have grown powerful, this was going to happen, since they are the main heroes, but in my opinion, it's more about getting mature, as I said before.

I read what you put still a little confused with what you were aiming for but it doesn't really matter if Minato or Itachi were Sasuke and Naruto measuring stick I'll say but it doesn't change the fact that both Naruto and Sasuke have surpassed Minato and Itachi.

You all are missing the point of his statement; he's saying Minato and Itachi were just stepping stones leading to Naruto and Sasuke's development to surpass Hashirama and Madara; I believe they are nearly Hashirama and Madara's equals but I don't buy into the EMS becomes Rinnegan because that is a genetic impossibility, all that the Senju DNA combined with the Uchiha DNA is make the possessor of both DNA strains able to use the Rinnegan, it doesn't awaken it at all; this is just another lie told by Madara to Obito who, being a gullible twit, believes everything the old psycho says.
At any rate Sasuke will become the TRUE embodiment of Uchiha power, but IMO without all the haterade and in turn Naruto may become the embodiment of the So6Ps and the Senju ( I think he draws direct Senju lineage from his father because Namikaze has not been called a clan the same way Sarutobi isn't a clan just a surname passed from father to son, so Minato's probably Senju from his mother's side ).
My latest theory is that NAruto and Sasuke will fuse somehow, like Goten and Trunks, or those two from Bleach ( I forget their names ); just a crazy thought. Loved the thread, *****.

Yes I've figured this out a while ago. I have question do you think MS Obito can beat Nagato? If so that means his MS abilities put him above Nagato even tho we know who's has more power. Same can be said about Sasuke EMS once we see what it can do, so he doesn't necessarily have to get he Rinnegan to be above Nagato. Guess we'll have to see what power Sasuke holds in his eyes, for Obito to say he could potentially surpass Nagato
