Kakashi's Kamui and Versus Threads

Is Kakashi's Kamui as a deadly offensive Jutsu a legitamate factor in versus threads?

  • No. The evidence is not consclusive and ultimately speculative.

  • Yes an No. It can theoritically kill, but it is seems too speculative/unfair to be considered.

Kakashi's Kamui

*Warning, there are spoilers* Read at your own discretion if you are not up to date on the Manga

This thread is as much as a question as it is a solution to the discussions and questions about Kakashi's Kamui, especially in versus threads. My question is simply this: when it comes to versus threads, is it fair to consider Kakashi's Kamui as a factor when it comes to Kakashi's arsenal of offensive jutsus? I have added alongside this thread a poll as to what you think the answer is.

I've heard reasonable arguments on both sides of the view. They are generally as follows:

Against Kamui: until Kakashi or anyone else has actually killed someone with Kamui, arguments that Kamui can kill as a factor in versus threads are largely speculative.

In favor of Kamui: No speculation is needed, considering that Kakashi's encounter with Deidara (i.e. when Kakashi destroyed Deidara's left arm) provides more than enough evidence to believe that Kakashi's Kamui can in fact kill.

Now, I will not go into detail, since there are more things to consider, like the speed of Kakashi's Kamui (perhaps one might reference Kakashi's encounter with Sasuk's Susano'o). Kakashi is able to command his Kamui very quickly and efficiently and against quick moving objects (albeit object that move towards him, as opposed to some other direction). He took long with Deidara, yes, but that is because he was chasing him and jumping on trees that sometimes obscured his vision. Again, this is not a thread that will go over all the evidence.

Nevertheless, I do want to point out a detail in the manga that I believe is good and strong evidence that favors the view that Kamui can be used to kill. Consider the following manga page:

Although Madara warns Kakashi that Kamui won't work on him, clearly Kakashi has an intent to finish off Tobi. Granted, Kakashi, as far as we know, has never defeated anyone with Kamui. All he has ever managed with the jutsu is to protect himself (from Pain's weapon, Sasuke's Susano'o arrow), mutilate Deidara (the closes he has come to killing someone with Kamui), and warp a Naruto clone.

However, whether he has actually defeated an opponent or not with Kamui is arguably irrelevant--Kakashi's statement seems to strongly suggest that he can kill someone with Kamui and quickly at that (which his desire to end the battle as soon as possible again suggests).

Therefore, it seems beyond a reasonable doubt that Kakashi can use Kamui to defeat his opponent and quickly too. Clearly Kamui is a very powerful Jutsu (and this is just 1 of the many Jutsu that Kakashi has) that puts Kakashi far an above most ninja, in my humble opinion. Kakashi doesn't use it often because of the toll it takes on his body and because he is a powerful ninja in his own right. In other words, if he can defeat his opponent without kamui, he'll do it: there's no need to waste energy or exhaust his sharingan when he doesn't have to.

With this in mind, I don't think it is reasonable to say that Kakashi would ever use his Kamui right off the bat when it comes to any versus thread unless his opponent were extremely powerful and posed a serious threat. If Kamui is to be used in versus threads, I think it should be used sparingly because Kakashi would use it sparingly. Moreover, I think that is also unreasonable to simply state that Kamui counts as an automatic kill (that is not what I'm arguing). All I am saying is that Kamui can kill, but that it is not a guarantee (hence, there will ultimately be speculation about Kamui).

Anyway, please tell me your thoughts.

Well i guess since he showed intent to kill obito there means if it was any other ninja.[not on a kage level of coarse] he probably would have. and having the speed to warp sasuke's arrow means he pretty much can snipe ninjas with his eyes. In which case he shows the speed to do it and the intent so its a valid argument as to why he would try this.

anything which can warp a person partially can kill and also if he warps a whole person into the kamui, they will eventually starve
Right. My main point was not to prove that Kamui can kill (although it's important that the first be established) but whether or not Kamui is fair to use in versus threads and if it is, in what way should it be used.

Many people say that Kakashi can simply use Kamui at the start of a battle and he wins, no effort. On the one hand, this is theoretically true. Kakashi seems to be very quick and efficient with his Kamui, such that anyone who has no knowledge of his abilities or simply standing could be caught off guard and simply be defeated just like that. Thus, only those who have a reasonable defense against Kamui can have a hope of defeating him.

However, that begs the question: is this true? Could Kakashi defeat people like Itachi? Jiraiya? Naruto? Theoretically, Kakashi could kill everyone (provided they can't somehow avoid Kamui, like Tobi claims about himself). Are we prepared to assert the prowess of the Kamui and logically conclude that anyone who cannot defend automatically loses?

These are my questions, these are the things I want to explore. Maybe I'll edit my OP to include these questions. I don't think I was being clear enough exactly.
