Yeah I hope 0 squad comes, I just know Isshin was the ex captain of it as think about it no one knows of a Isshin Kurosaki, no one even thinks his spirit pressure seems familiar and the Shinigami that said this are well over a 100 years old and there was never a Isshin mentioned by the other captains.

plus I find it to convenient for Kisuke, Yourichi and Isshin to live in the exact same town, the exact same town that was meant to be used as a key into the kings realm personally I think Isshin was either sent there by the soul king to protect it.

And also does anyone get the feeling Isshin is a lot older than he's letting on...you see it every now and then like when he battled Grande fisher he talked to him as if he was a boy.

Then there's the 12th captain before Urahara forgot her name.

Other than that we can speculate Ginrei I feel is in there as well.

Also didn't they say that being in zero division was like a promotion from being a captain perhaps they are promoted for separate skills.

Yeah, Captains can be promoted into the Royal Guard aka Squad Zero, but I doubt that's the only way they can draw their members

This I just a guess but I believe before Yama create the gotei 13 there was only the royal guard so it is like he left the guard to create his academy for soul reapers and the 13 court guard squads. But I can say for sure unohana and ukitake and Shunsui had not to do with the royal guard they were the first to come out of the academy to be captains.

It's seems hard to understand how kubo thought of writing the royal guard and Yama being old teammates. I had someone yesterday say kurotsuchi was involved in the Quincy extermination I thought it was wrong.

Yamamoto's strength has nothing to do with this. Squad Zero could still be stronger than the Gotei 13 overall considering it's comprised of Captains who've been promoted. You don't get promoted if you're not exceptional. This doesn't take away from the possibility that there could be members who are damn close to Yamamoto's power either. A group of Shinigami who are close to Yamamoto's power would still fare better than Yamamoto alone - there is strength in numbers.

In the last chapter we were also shown that the original Gotei 13 were made up of "blood thirsty killers". It's entirely within the realm of possibility that a few of these Shinigami could have entered the Royal Guard. This could easily have been meant to foreshadow some of their appearances.
