*His personality is like a bloodlusted assasin, and Hidan sucks IMO, he doesn't deserv the title of akatsuki, he tries to be badass and he fails so bad. He isn't even funny.

*Hidan can't defeat without killing, because his special jutsu (probably the only one he has) is made for killing, that jutsu can't capture, and the purpose of akatsuki is not killing the jins, is to capture them.

*Zabuza can capture, he captured kakashi with his water prision, he could easely capture a jin, i mean he captured a sharingan user (perfect counter to the mist), he could easely capture somebody without sharingan.

Hidan captured Yugito with Kakuzu. He killed Asuma. He killed that powerful flame temple guy. He's the only character to achieve immortality without Edo Tensei. Zabuza can't capture a freakin' jinchuuriki with his water prison, too weak. Zabuza was owned by Kakashi two times. Kakashi needed help from his team to even stand a chance against Hidan alone.

First of all, Hidan is capable of capturing a jinchuuriki. He needs a cut, taste the blood and the stabs his legs/arms to take the mobility of the enemy.
Second i think Zabuza is also good material for the Akatsuki. But Kisame is also one of the 7 mist and Kisame is the better choice here.
Third Zabuza is much better than Hidan and would most likely win a fight between them. Kakashi made him look weak, because Kakashi was really strong and had a Sharingan. This gave us an impression of him being weak. But in the war he was the main problem of Unit Kakashi because of his Mist Jutsu and Silent Killing.

Hidan only had is capable of catching the tailed beasts because he is durable despite being accident prone...Zabuza is an intelligent fighter, and would fight well with Kakuzu so long as he didn't have his arrogant personality. Plus his water style would register the team to be able to use all the elements (If you only go by manga). Take away Hidan's invulnerability, or tell everyone his technique and you pull a Kakashi on him
