A few of the upcoming movies that'll lead up to the phase 2 of the Avengers were announced a while ago. Here they are:

-Iron Man 3

Will be based on the Extremis Arc. THE EXTREMIS ARMOR IS COMING?!
Ben Kingsley has been cast as The Mandarin but is stated to not be the main baddie.

-Thor: The Dark World

Will revolve around the Dark Elfs with Christopher Eccleston cast as Malekith

-Captain America: Winter Soldier

Apparently will take place after the Avengers

-Guardians of the Galaxy

A group of superheros that...do what their name says.
A hint that Thanos may indeed be the villain for Avengers 2?

What you all think?

Going to be sick. I'm in real anticipation of Captain America 2, aswell as the others, but Cap is my favorite.

I hope Bruce Banner cameos in them and I think he might.

Thanos has been comfirmed to be the main villain in avengers 2.

The rest sounds cool.
No, he isn't. Not yet at least. The only thing we know is that he'll have something to do with phase 2 of the Avengers but no concrete information has been given that he'll actually be the main villain.

Unless there's sources that you'd like to share that confirms it

Well, Joss Whedon quickly mentioned that he always wanted to involve Thanos down the line. [ ] So, it's indeed very plausible that Thanos is main villain in Avengers 2. That being said, I agree with you: it's not yet officially confirmed. I guess, it's because it might spoil the ending/end-credits of either Iron Man 3 or Thor 2.

What intrigues me is Guardians of the Galaxy. While I'm interested to see them on celluloid, they are a superhero team who are more linked with Avengers and mostly foe to Korvac & Galactus. So, after all, Guardians of the Galaxy might not really be a field for Thanos. Somewhat, I'd love if Avengers 2 contain two big bad-ass villains. Korvac and Thanos will make for an awesome combo.

I'm not saying Galactus cause I feel we first need a Fantastic Four reboot before getting Galactus on cinema screen.

Coming on other movies, I'm really looking forward to development of Iron Man 3 and the Extremis Arc. Ben Kingsley is one of my favorite veteran actors. And Rebecca Hall and Downey Jr. will make a great pairing too :p

Nathalie Portman and Kat Dennings are also back in Thor 2. So hell yeah!

Cap. America is going to good too. Since it's the movie who's really going to present the aftermath of the Avengers events more carefully. Perhaps, many cameos too. xd

Going to be a great 2 years before Avengers 2 hit the screen!

O_O Ultimate alliance! >_< we dont need avengers 2 >_> Spiderman is experiencing a reboot, hopefully the next release of xmen would make the story line more comic orientated. Next time they gotta merge all the groups D:

I'm excited for all of them & I'm pretty sure Ant-Man will come out in this time frame as well & I really want 2 see that one. The one I'm looking forward to most is Cap because the Winter Solder story line is one of my favorite story lines in comics.

Marvel Studios messed up (big time) by selling the rights of Spiderman to Sony.

Agreed, but I hope and think Sony will possibly partner up with them in the future.

Marvel, overall, is owning the movie world. They have a plan and it's working brilliantly.
I can't fathom why they wouldn't want to either. I mean, it's not like it can hurt Sony to do that, right?

I'd LOVE to see Spiderman having a part in the Avengers. Not to mention seeing him and Stark in each others faces. That'd be hilarious :D

Well, Sony is a pretty huge production company and Marvel has reached similar status with numerous success now. Fact is, both companies will want huge returns. If let's say Marvel really wants to add Spiderman to Avengers 2, they'll need to expend a lot to buy the full rights. I don't think any of the companies will want to work in collaboration either.

Avengers already made a huge name of itself. Even if Spiderman is added, I don't see the box office numbers of Avengers 2 doubling or tripling that of Avengers. It will most likely be greater but I don't think it will make, let's say $ 4 Billion or so; Spidey in or out! That'll be insane.

So, will Sony and Marvel share the rights and profits? The revenues might not be as profitable. Marvel might think that handing a big percentage of money to Sony is not worth it; when they already got a huge starcast. Not to forget that many of the Avengers stars got huge paychecks. For example, Robert Downey Jr. got a % share on whole revenue of his marvel movies as per his contract. This makes him one of the stars who earned the most these last 5 years. Given the % shares he received upon the excellent successes of Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Avengers.

In fact, Marvel didn't really liked to share the money with Downey Jr. They will have preferred to hand him a fixed paycheck and end the story. Scarlett and S.L. Jackson are also huge names in Hollywood; so I think they also got quite a hefty paycheck. All that to say, that, it is not so easy to buy or share rights with Sony. Marvel never expected that Iron Man (which was the real catalyst) will be such huge success. Thereby, they never hesitated to sell the rights of Spiderman to Sony (or a matter of fact, F4 to Fox). That sucks!

If Spiderman was in the Avengers that would be awsome.
