I think Itachi is an all time great in Naruto, hes def in the top 10. Itachi is a character that we will never see his true potential. Every time we see him in action he always has new abilities shown for that situation or some unknown knowledge on the situation. I think Kishi did this on purpose so he can still have what if "hype". Very similar to Minato. If you think about it, Kishi needed Itachi to die. But he wouldn't let Itachl be defeated in an all out 1v1. So he made Itachi sick so that he can die by his own hand basically. From what we have seen and his abilities on paper, he is def top 10 in Naruto.
Why is Itachi always compared to the Top Tiers?

Itachi is surely powerful. He's in the top 10, and is compared to those as high as the top 5 (Naruto vs Itachi and Nagato vs Itachi have had big debates in the past. Especially the latter). He WILL however be defeated by Kabuto, Tobi, Madara, Nagato, Naruto, Minato (yes, it's true), Muu, Sasuke, and MAYBE Sasori. By hype, Hashirama wins as well. But I don't count hype, so for now, the list before Hashi is the list that takes Itachi.
However, even though Itachi will lose the majority of the time against these characters, he is compared to all of them because of his intellect. Also because he has fanboys of epic proportions.

This battle would be very situational. Kabuto used Sasuke to get to Itachi as he said he would. Just like when he put them both in an genjutsu. I'm sure Itachi can easily break it due to him being a master at genjutsu and his sharigan granting him to see through it easily. Sasuke on the other hand is different. He has a weak genjutsu and on top of that his battle with the Raikage shown that even though he can see through genjutsu it takes him time to break it.
Itachi would have most likely done a lot better on his own.
Btw, before Itachi go hit, Izanagi was activated. We know this because of how Kabuto was standing when it showed Itachi and Sasuke right in front of Kabuto with Itachi's hand on top of Kabuto's head.

You're just assuming he could get out by himself, if Sasuke wasn't there tto help him then it most likely would have been over then.
I don't see how Minato can beat Itachi. People ignore all of Itachis feats without MS. Minato fans constantly ignore his fighting style which is genjutsu and Minato has shown shit squat about breaking it. But really idc anymore because Minato fans will just say he throws a kunai at the best kunai blocker in the series. Telports to it and blitzs the guy who has a 5 in speed.
The sharigan is able to easily see through genjutsu's and break them. That is just the given feature of their eyes. Itachi is basically a master at genjutsu and Sasuke is pretty much average when it comes to it but his sharigan helps him. Itachi would by stats have no problem breaking it. It was Sasuke and seeing that Kabuto was right around the corner attacking he used Sasuke to break each other out. Sound genjutsu is just a normal genjutsu delivered by sound. The illusion effects are the same. Sasuke is just not as good as genjutsu as Itachi is. Frog Song for an example is a strong genjutsu because it is a sound genjutsu(which I believe is hardest and most effective way to catch people in genjutsu) but its the fact that its able to catch a mass amount of people at one time. Its not unbreakable like Itachi's Tsukuyomi.
Like I've said before. This battle is very situational. If Sasuke wasn't around then Itachi wouldn't have to worry about Kabuto trying to capture him. Itachi was basically shielding his brother and defending and attacking at the same time while trying not to kill Kabuto. I'm not saying he can beat him but its VERY situational when it comes to battles like these. If its a battle to the death then we will never know because Itachi wasn't trying to kill him at all but Kabuto on the other hand was hitting Itachi with death blows because A. hes and Edo and B. he is shielding Sasuke. If Kishi actually wrote out a battle between the two then who do you think he would make the winner? Itachi is an character who we have not seen his true potential. Him out of the blue being able to use Izanami is proof of this. Every time we see Itachi he has some new feats. It is very situational and really only Kishi can decide with a character like his.
