Well you don't really compress other Lightning jutsus into spheres as far as I'm aware there is only two including this one and it explodes not many do that either. This jutsu is just based around destruction because of the "huge explosion" it causes so I think a good use for this is blasting through an earth jutsu because I don't think I would use this on the opponent wouldn't you be caught in the explosion?

Well the initial effect is just a compressed ball of lightning not an explosion so it will be fine. But yes the real deal is that when completed this jutsu causes an explosion, note that its short range only. Meaning that the compressed ball explosion is directional released towards the opponent at short range thus keeping you safe.

As a first move in battle I would create a lightning shadow clone then make him use the windmill shuriken jutsu to bind the opponent. As soon as he is bound in that position I would fire this jutsu at him to finish him off.

You must know the following for the battle. How long does it takes for the Kirin clouds to form?

If you use the Fire Jutsu on the current turn, in the next turn you can bring the lightning back. This should work every time.
But the way I see it, the fire travels quite fast, but has to achieve the distance it separates your mouth from the atmosphere, and shortly after it goes through it, the clouds form and are charged with lightning. If you play your cards right, you should be able to spit the fire in the beginning of the turn and drop Kirin by the end of it, if you make your turn last long (You can make a turn last the time it takes for a kunai to be shot, or make a turn last the time it takes for a top runner to run around a normal sized stadium 5 turns). Anyways, there are multiple variables, but if you use the Fire jutsu in the current turn, you will always be able to use Kirin in the next.

I think it takes one turn for the clouds to form to perform the Kirin jutsu. And no I don't have any extra questions.

Better Description @ Wikia: This gives the chidori the same level and power as the lightning blade by compressing the lightning chakra into the same form as the lightning blade insted of beening a simply a mass of white electrical chakra in the user's hand the chidori gains the same shape as the lightning blade increasing its distructive power and can be used to give a enemy a large electrical shock without cutting them.

One of my favorite S-rank Lightning jutsu. Just an amazing one. Advantages; 1. Very quick, no hand-seals. 2. Mid-range enough for most targets. 3. covers a spherical pattern area destroying everything almost 360 degrees from you hand.

*First I concentrate a large amount of lightning chakra into my right hand focusing and compressing it. Then I jump high into the air activating the chidori in my right hand and I make sure I don't lose control of it. Whilst I am in mid air I fully outstretch my right arm pointing the chidori straight at the dummy. I then release all of the lightning energy in my chidori then create a giant thunderbolt out of the released lightning energy and shoot it directly at the dummy.*

*First I begin to focus a massive amount of lightning chakra into my right hand. I keep focusing and when it becomes visible I try to compress the chakra and shape it into a sharp blade. Once I have compressed the chakra into the shape of a blade I know I have formed a raikiri in my hand, I then dash straight at the dummy and noticing my increased speed I adapt to it. I quickly jab the dummy with the raikiri delivering a powerful electric shock.*

*I first walk from the dummy until I am at mid range from him then I out stretch my right hand with my palm facing upwards. I begin to focus a large amount of lightning chakra into the palm of my hand and as it becomes visible I compress it into a chidori. When it is fully compressed I turn my hand and point the chidori in my hand at the dummy. I begin to make the chidori spread from my palm at a very fast pace until it completely covers the poor wee dummy completely destroying it.*
