The story revolves around Sammy wintherfield a 17 year old junior who is slightly overweight and goes to school at mid field high in California, he is from the wintherfield family, one of the richest family in California, who owns the multi-billion dollar company Wintherfield Rig –Oil, one of the many dealers of oil in America. He has one sibling ,a brother called math, full name Matthew wintherfield Aged 24, who just finished college and is brought up by his father Lincoln wintherfield to take his place as ceo of the company and head of board of director’s. Matthew is full of pride and self esteem which Is the opposite of his brother Sammy who has no self esteem, or faith in himself, despite being a straight A student and being of excellent conduct and good moral. Their mother Anne Wintherfield, who has been married to Lincoln their father for 14 years and has been the rock of the family, she loves her son’s equally and give both of them the love and attention they deserve, Whereas their father who mostly pays more attention and time to sam older brother Matthew, On their parents 14 year anniversary Lincoln announced that he has being diagnosed with stage 3 prostrate cancer ,and that he has been given 10 months at best, with the chemotherapy and medication, This shook the wintherfield house hold and it seems Lincoln diagnosis of prostrate cancer, brought him and Sammy closer and he truly learnt to appreciate and see Sam for what he truly is a bright , young and promising fellow who has his whole life ahead of him to become and do something great , Matthew rarely came to visit his father ,the times he came was merely to ask of money from his father. The first chapter called Blown by the wind takes place at Sam father death bed, with Sam and Anne by his side ,as he gave up his last breath.
Chapter One: Blown By the wind
Lincoln: [Shallow Voice]Thank you [Sobs] Thank you.
Anne: Thank you for what?[Tear falls slowly down from her eyes]
Lincoln: Everything ,I never deserved you Anne, thank you[sobs]
Anne: Don’t say that Lincoln, you have been my rock all this years.
Lincoln: I’m so sorry[cough..cough..cough]
Anne: It is ok honey just take deep breaths ,don’t push yourself
Sam: Yeah dad, don’t push yourself.
Lincoln: Sammy this few months with you has been great
Sam: I loved it too dad.
Lincoln: I had wished for your brother math to be here
Sam: Me too dad
Anne: We all would
Lincoln wintherfield on January 18 took his last breath in the midst of his wife Anne and son Sam, he gave up the ghost at exactly 13:08 ,the doctor came in after leaving the family ,thus giving them the chance to say good bye. He came in to plug out the life support and other machine which had helped Lincoln to live this far, he offered words of companionship to the Anne and math and then sent the body to the morgue to be kept there ,while the burial arrangement was constructed. So finally the day came exactly 3 months after Lincoln died , the day to bury him and give his loved ones a lat opportunity to say good bye to their father, friend and the man who made a name for himself out o nothing indeed ,Lincoln was truly a diamond in the rough, he died at the age of 74 and had lived a life which his wife and sons can be proud off. The funeral was a private affair with only close relatives ,friend and family , huge money had been put in and indeed every penny was worth it, to celebrate the life of such a great man in the eyes of his family. Finally after the burial and digging of the grave, and after their family said there last good bye ,it was time to look at the will.
Lincoln wintherfield created a will which he kept in a lock in his office ,only he and his lawyer tom scaffold, had the key to open the safe and when the time came, tom called out the family to read the will in front of them, Matthew was in attendance too and they all sat down together with some other family folks and friends to read the will. The air was bright and Matthew could already been seen with a huge smile, as he was expecting all of his father possession or to say the least majority of it, this was unlike Sammy , who did not expect anything as he was just there to show support to his mother and to respect his father wishes of this two sons and mother being present ,when the will was read. Tom reached for his briefcase, and after opening his lock , he brought out the will, behold this piece of paper which was to decide a very important and crucial aspect of his family ,he opened the paper and after a long cough to clear his throat he put on his reading glasses, and began to read the will which was written and signed by Mr. Lincoln wintherfield.
Tom: If you are reading this paper, it means I sadly must have died, take comfort and draw strength from prayers and from each other. My 7 mansion houses 4 in California, one in Detroit, and two in Washington go to Anne my beloved wife, along with all my cars, and the private jet, to bennet, grace and will, you shall share 10 million dollars and divide it equally among yourself, and enjoy the money and use it to further your children education, make their lives easier, to my two sons math and Sam, you guys have grown up to be smart, smarter than your old man it seems, to math I leave 40 million dollars to him to start his own company, spend on his wives or girlfriend or anything he may wish to do, as for Sammy I leave my entire empire estate and business to him, when he comes of the right age [18] and is legally an adult he would take over from his mother Anne who would stand in for him and last of all I leave him all my money and leave all my wealth which is valued 2.1 billion dollars at his disposal when he comes of the right age.
When he stopped reading and had said all that was written down on the will ,he showed all present the signature of Mr. Lincoln which established concrete proof , that he indeed write the will, while he went around showing everyone the signature the room was filled with silence, Anne, math and Sam had still yet to realize what just happened , the lawyer packed up his belonging and left the room ,leaving the family of Mr. Lincoln field dumb founded and lost for words to say, until a sudden rage and outburst and shout was done by math, who has angry and annoyed that his father could leave such little amount for him, despite all the learning and grooming he had taught him and all the promises that was made, he left the room and slammed the iron doors driving off , leaving Anne and sam who started to realize what had occurred, and how he was now one of the richest teenagers in America and had money he never dream he could have a half off.
