Manchester City v/s Southampton: 3-2

Well, I won't lie - I was kinda excited when Southampton took the lead; though I kinda knew City won't lose. The match was a replica of the historic last match of 2011-2012's season. Tevez opened the score (in an off-side position) and then City monotonously controlled the match. They had glaring chances but they started slacking off and Southampton's two goals gave life and thrills back into the match; which I was all for. Dzeko and Nasri ended up clinching it for Citizens.

Escorp's Notices on this match:

1. City's play is clearly more known by opponents now. So I expect less crusade 5-0 or 6-1 victories in this season's term; despite their rich squad.

2. City's players have matured enough to remain in the Top Side for years now. This new comeback victory proves it.

3. City's defense is very good but when it turns to slacken during domination periods of their team. City will need to be more deadly with their chances; if they don't want to get surprise upsets. Make no mistake, the two goals of Southampton were hold-up goals but it came mainly because City became overconfident of their force. Should be careful or they'll receive surprise blows like the 1-0 defeats against Sunderland or Everton of past season.

4. It was Silva's worst match since he came into EPL imo. He missed a penalty, shoot on the bar in front of an open goal and had many mistimed passes. On the other hand, Nasri as excellent. I have a deep belief that the best duo of playmakers will help their team with the title quest. By such, both players need to remain on their top-form.

5. Southampton will need to fight for their survival but they showed interesting glimpses; mostly in midfield section. Last year, Swansea had one of the best midfield possession and revealed hidden gems like Siggourdson and Allen. I won't say the same for Southampton but their striker - Lambert - is a clinical finisher. If served well, he could have a decent tally by the end of the season.

West-Bromwich Albion v/s Liverpool: 3-0

I can't say how good it felt to watch this match with a Liverpool supporter :p Anyways...

Escorp's Notices on this match:

1. The first goal is a beast. Best goal of this season for now.

2. Liverpool is in jeopardy. Allen is good but Gerrard is a ghost of his former shelf. Suarez had weird misses and Borini didn't impress.

3. This match against WBA was supposedly a routine match before having tough matches following. With such a catastrophic start, I won't be surprised if they are in relegating position at around the 10th Day or so. Their next 4 matches include: City, Arsenal, Sunderland & united. May God have mercy on them. (I don't mean that though xd)

Arsenal v/s Sunderland: 0-0

In a pretty underwhelming performance, this match had the feel of an season's opener sadly. Both teams weren't really at their best and delivered average performances. Giroud had a awful miss; which all cynics quickly retorted that RVP wouldn't miss this one. I'll be fair though - let's not bury him too fast.

Escorp's Notices on this match:

1. Cazorla will be a star. All chances that Arsenal got in this match was stamped by him. He is linking admirably well with Arteta. I took point that Arsenal need to have a leader. I can't say if he'll be that player since he lack that leadership ability and is very humble on the field. But, he has all to be the most valuable asset of the Gunners.

2. Sunderland has a solid team. Defends extremely well and is very disciplined under a great manager like O'Neil. Won't be surprised to see them in Top 10 this year.

Everton v/s Manchester United: 1-0

I won't start deploring our midfield and how a CM/CDM will have been more needful than RVP, like most United fans did. It's done now and we'll need to fight with what we have. That apart, it was a very good match. Lots of physical intensity and two teams who replied back and forth to each other.

Escorp's Notices on this match:

1. Fellaini is a fantastic player. His heading timing is terrifying and David Moyes got the merit to use him brilliantly well in his tactic. He is Everton's key man. If he is on the same level throughout the season, he's gonna end up as one of the best player and Everton could finish pretty highly.

2. Kagawa will also be a star. If I'm not wrong, he barely missed 3 passes or so. His play with Rooney is slowly taking shape like I hoped for. In fact, it's been a long time that I saw Rooney playing so many exchange passes in midfield; perhaps ever since he became orphan of Ronaldo. Also, Kagawa is really hardworking, roams really quickly, is very intelligent in his positioning and has a keen eye.

3. That apart, United players weren't at their best. Nani was disastrous - I'm not really against his possible Zenit transfer to speak the truth. Rooney was good in midfield but far from his best when it came to offense. Scholes was his usual self. Welbeck was not really good. Cleverley was very promising though and seemed to return slowly to his best since his injury. Valencia was average in that awkward right-back position. Vidic's recovery graph is increasing if we go by pre-seasons matches. Evra was okay but again, Evra didn't brought much danger from left flank. Carrick can't do much in central defense. De Gea was excellent.

4. Everton's aerial domination is what gave them the edge in this match. Fellaini and Jelavic were constant danger for United while Distin and Jagielka pushed all dangers away.

5. United needs some improvement to do. Their defense need to be more solid but I guess, they fared averagely in a defense where only Evra and Vidic were in their positions. I won't be harsh on that cause Everton is a very good team. It's a team that lost only two home-matches last season and even those two defeat were mere 1-0 score against solid sides like Arsneal and United. They are no squash material.

6. I'm glad Fergie dropped the 4-4-2 finally but still, this team is too offensive. Removing Nani to play another CDM/CM will add more defensive solidity that was much needed. Our midfield lacks physicality in duels and the fact that Fellaini destroyed Cleverley/Scholes in air with his height, power and timing shows that.

7. United will need to bury their half-chances. There were 5-6 instances where a United player got in front of Howard's goal but they were stopped by a defender before shooting. And I know many cynics blasted United that we didn't create enough danger but I'd like to point out that we did have decent chances despite Everton's packed defending.

Newcastle v/s Tottenham: 2-1

The second's most powerpacked match after Everton/United with 2 teams that finished pretty high last season. Was a pretty great match and Spurs were kinda unlucky. Deserved to took the lead in first half but didn't. Then they were punished by a wonderful strike by Demba Ba.

Escorp's Notices on this match:

1. Spurs got a promising team. Siggourdson is no Modric but he's gonna help a lot in midfield task. Their team didn't change much; so I expect them to feature very well this year too. They'll be a danger to all teams.

2. Same for Newcastle. Unchanged team and gonna be a solid side yet again.

3. Still, for Villas-Boas's sake, Tottenham shouldn't lose too much. Personally, a draw will have been a fairer result in this match but it's football.

Wigan v/s Chelsea: o-2 & Chelsea v/s Reading: 4-2

The Wigan match had not much to talk about. Took advantage quickly and they controlled the rest of the match. I was kinda sad that they didn't attack more though cause Wigan wasn't really Barcelona. As for yesterday's match, they did a good comeback victory; even if the 3rd goal was offside.

Escorp's Notices on this match:

1. Hazard is being showered in praises, so I'll start with him. Firstly, it doesn't surprise me cause I get all Ligue 1/Ligue 2 matches at my place and he was my favorite player in French league in last 2 years. He is doing pretty well - 3 assists and 2 penalties created; which makes for impressive debut season. He is also gelling well with Mata. Yeah, he dived a little too much imo but then again, it's an early characteristic of players who come from Ligue 1 since there's a pretty BIG difference in physicality. Drogba, Henry, Gervinho, Ben Arfa, Benzema ect... all fell pretty easily when transferred from Lige 1. Some lose this awful habit over time (Benz) and some keep it forever (Drogba). Hazard is a showman playmaker. He has all to become popular but it's up-to him if he wanna tarnish that image with another tag - diver.

2. Chelsea has a very offensive squad now which is much better than last year's aging team. But I'm kinda surprised that they aren't more frivolous in offense and are sticking to their infamous 'bus park' tactic. I can understand against big teams but it's surprising me against smaller teams like Wigan-Reading.

I'm sorry for this late analysis but I was kinda busy. Still, this post is more an analysis of the good points/minus points of EPL's top teams rather than a match analysis. I was also going to post on Madrid/Barca's duel along with EPL teams but I think I'll wait post tonight's Supercopa Classico.

@escorp: united problem is actually in defense, they need NEW ferdinand/stam to patch the hole especially for aerial battle

Lol

On United's defense, well, yes, our defense is worrying but well, that was expected. We got 5 central defenders - Ferdinand, Vidic, Jones, Smalling and Evans. Out of which 4 are injured and one just returned from a season-long injury. So, I'm a little indulgent. Had United not played Nani and instead play a 3-man midfield (Carrick-Scholes-Cleverley), Fellaini will have lose much more balls.

Nonetheless, a deep-lying playmaker with physicality and good defensive ability is sorely needed. Fellaini won most of his aerial battles and the fact that Scholes and Cleverley are short playmakers helped him considerably. Personally, Carrick is not bad but he got poor playmaking talents. He needs a playmaker alongside for midfield to work like Scholes.

What we need is a player who is capable of being a replacement of Scholes and someone who got quite some intensity in duels and is applied in defensive tasks. Basically, a player who is a blend of Carrick & Scholes. If Cleverley get better in aerial battles and in defensive tasks, it will be nice, otherwise we need someone. Modric, Martinez, Y.Toure, Khedira, Song, De Rossi are good examples.

In a way, we are playing two players for a task than a single good CM recruitment could do.

its kinda hard for united to find a replacement for scholes, i mean i thought kagawa is the one but nah i was wrong kagawa is more like giggs, hazard is actually the right choice but heck the blue london get to him 1st,

i kinda understand why SAF want to get de rossi so badly a few years ago, they really need a deep lying play maker who have huge body and can help the defense and deadly in attack,

but most of them already pass their golden age, if only pirlo were 10 years younger i bet SAF will go all out to get him into the theater of dreams
:)

Kagawa is more like Silva. What we need is someone like Y.Toure. Hazard is not really the one. In fact, Kagawa is a better defender than Hazard and Hazard is too much of a showman to be relied upon defensively. He's a great player; but not really what United needed. Kagawa is gonna shine in creative playmaking section (where we also lacked last season) but when it comes to deep-lying physical playmaking, well, the search is still on and as all United fan, we know that Scholes can't save us continuously.

The best young replacement I know for Scholes is Modric. He got the same passing/playmaking profile that Xavi/Scholes got (just a little more raw than those 2) and he's pretty applied defensively. He'll remain the biggest miss of United in this transfer market.

Yeah, De Rossi could be great add. Same for Martinez/Lucas Moura but their release clauses was too high.

Actually, Pirlo could have come to United when he was 28 or something if I remember. I don't remember what went wrong in the transfer procedure though. We also missed on Ozil some years ago.

City will struggle more this season.

Kagawa has been impressive, he could be the Iniesta of United.

United just need to break RVP in and they'll be set to at least win back EPL title, but going all the way may be a bit too much to expect from them now. I heard SAF still wants Sneijder and they even offered Nani + cash for him.

All tho Inter have been impressive in their last 9 games (pre season/friendlies) with a 8-1-0 record. This season will be a dark cloudy season for Milan and Inter is much levelled with Juventus/Napoli quality wise, maybe just slightly behind them.

Chelsea, well they call the new Chelsea offensive base game, the "Barcelona effect". Chelsea has been somewhat a bore TBH. Hazard/Oscar bring more energy to their game, but they just can't seem to dominate a game. I mean Wigan seemed the better side, and Reading played well and looked deadly a few times.

All tho their encounter with current champions City in Shield fixture went pretty well if it wasn't for the red, they may have won, but they did concede 3 goals in less than 15 mins. RDM won't be able to set a high tempo attack base team, he isn't really known for that.

Hazard does a few dives, but not as much he isn't a Busquets/Alves/Drogba/Ronaldo/Di Maria who constantly dive and play act.

Anyways Chelsea got an offside goal (surprised Torres scored that), or else they would have drawn.

City will pick up form eventually and Hart just returned from injury, the goals scored by Southampton were quit soft and Hart should have saved them.

Cazorla performances doesn't surprise me in the first game. When he left Villarreal (I know they had other problems also) they got relegated and he was a key player for Malaga success last year, or at least reaching top 4.

HALA MADRID **** YEAH!!!!!!! destroy UEFALONA!!!!!!!
that's what i want to say, but i highly doubt that madrid will win this match.
I think you mixed the fixture up, its BARCElona.

Anyways Madrid offense has been interesting to watch and they can win by a huge margin, but it'll be a long shot the pre season has been explosive for them tho, so expect a boost.

My take on this Barcelona will go all out (this could back fire on them also) since Pepe won't be there (thank god the butcher is out). They'll try to score as much as they can, so Madrid have little hope on the returning leg. Mou may take a little more caution and play a slight defence game, with a little attack, but I'm sure he'll try settling for a draw to set the tempo for the return leg and have Pepe back. Anything else (a win) is a bouns for him and Madrid.

All tho a win can motivate one side, but a loss can also. We beat them last year, but lost La Liga, we already faced our nightmare last year, but maybe another awakening under Tito is what we need. I would like to win this, but losing may teach us a little more about our team.

I predict this will end up some where between

1-0
2-0
2-1
3-0
3-1

for Barcelona.

The Escorp's Supercopa Live Coverage:

REAL MADRID LINEUP: (4-2-3-1): Casillas - Arbeloa, Albiol, Ramos, Coentrao - Khedira, Alonso - Callejon, Ozil, Ronaldo - Benzema

BARCELONA LINEUP: (4-3-3): Valdes - Alves, Pique, Mascherano, Adriano - Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta - Pedro, Messi, Alexis

Kaka is not even on the bench - is this confirming a departure?

They are all players who were here last year. Barca's recruit Song and Alba are not playing either. So, I'm expecting a match with

Madrid defending with minimum 8 players and Barcelona dominating in possession.

00:00: Here we go!

05:44: Iniesta lost a ball. It's so rare that I'll note it :p

09:00: Alonso just flied Busquets with both his legs. Legit foul even though Busquets did an exaggerated triple grounds-wheel roll.

12:00: And Busquets again!

15:00: Barcelona's possession spell is gaining strength. Madrid's fouls are also increasing. Their defense are holding well though. No danger for either Casillas or Valdes yet though.

16:23: First shot from far from Pique. Off-target.

18:31: First good chance. ALves low-crossed for Messi whose shot surprisingly wasn't on-target.

23:00: Big stupid foul from Albiol but no card since he already got a Yellow card. Referee got indulgent here.

28:24: Messi's shoot but again, off-target.

29:50: Xavi is currently 40 passes out of 42 tried. Impressive!

30:00: Barcelona is really growing more and more in domination and possession. Zilch danger in front of Barca goal for now. Still, too few chances created from Barcelona given the amount of possession they got in this match.

30:20: Finally, a counter from Madrid which brought a minim danger. Corner won from Benzema.

31:51: Pedro shoots on target but it's too much on the center and Casillas deviates it with one hand.

35:05: Good cross from Ozil but Valdes boxes it away before Benzema headed it.

38:18: Small foul inside the box from Ramos onto Sanchez but Alexis exaggerated it. Referee gives only a corner which sounds correct to me. Could have been a penalty but would have been really severe

39:00: Watching replays of that "penalty" gain attempt with different angles. The more I see it, the more it looks like a desperate dive. Meh ~

39:17: Off-target shot from Xavi.

42:08: Oooh, foul from Albiol onto Xavi who was nearly going one-on-one against Casillas. Albiol escapes the red card yet again.

44:34: Mascherano stops a dangerous counter from developing with a foul. Yellow-carded.

HT: 0-0. Barcelona are clearly dominating but it's sterile since there's no enough danger. They could regret it on the return leg.

Madrid are underwhelmed for now but are very solid defensively. It's 2 players pressing high and remaining players are doing zonal defending. Albiol and Arbeloa got YC for now and same for Mascherano. Albiol is walking on a thin line.

45:00: Here we go again and....immediate foul on CR7.

49:51: Yellow card for Albiol. But no red card? WTF?

52:00: I guess, the first yellow card was a mistake...I need to check that. EDIT: Check that after the match - I guess first yellow card was for Alonso but it was written for Albiol on TV. Excuse the mistake :p

53:02: Wow, another dive by Alexis. This one is even worse attempt. No replays needed to see that this one was a dive. It even deserves a yellow card for simulation.

54:46: GOOOOOOOAL!! Ronaldo heads a great ball from Ozil's corner. No chance for Valdes with that powerful header of CR7 who dominated Pique on this duel.

55:58: GOOOOAL! Immediate reaction. Fantastic through-ball from Mascherano for Pedro who put it past Casillas with a precise shot.

56:00: Replays shows that Pedro is a little off-side. Hmm...its rarely tight though. Can't blame the referee for that.

59:49: Oh good header of Alexis on the post but referee gave a foul on Arbeloa and action is revoked.

60:17: Benzema - Out | Higuain - In

61:16: Messi gave a fantastic ball to Alves who eliminates a defender and shoots a little wide. Corner though since it seemed to be deviated.

61:56: Pique heads from that corner but off-target. This match definitely took spice post 50th minute or so and even more after CR7's opener.

64:33: Great cross Higuain controls and shoots but it's blocked by Pique. Callejon shoots again but again blocked. Madrid is clearly better offensively in second-half though.

65:04: Callejon - Out | Di Maria - In

68:00: Iniesta and Messi are trying to break the defense with lots of passes since couple of minutes now.

68:12: PENALTY! Iniesta's leg is held-off by Ramos tackle. Sounds more legit that Alexis's attempt.

68:19: GOAL! Messi converts it. 2-1 for Barca!

71:24: Alexis - Out | Tello - In

73:54: Wow, great through ball from Alonso for Ozil who isn't offside. His control is poor though and he obtains only a corner. Bad luck but Xabi Alonso's long pass is a delight to watch.

75:00: Madrid is pushing more offensively compared to 1st half but still, 2-1 for Barca!

77:04: GOOOOOOAL! XAVI! Fantastic goal finished from Xavi with a great assist from Inista. Iniesta eliminated the whole Madrid defense with this pass.

79:00: Corner for Barca whose 3rd goal gave them a real edge. Iniesta and Messi combo is hurting Madrid enormously for some minutes

now.

81:06: Ozil - Out | Marcelo - In

83:38: Xavi - Out | Fabregas - In

84:10: Fantastic save of Casillas. Iniesta gave another lovely ball to Messi and Casillas saved Madrid from a humiliation.

84:28: Goooal for Madrid! Wtf! Valdes did a complete useless "dribble" and Di maria executes the sentence.

86:45: Pedro - Out | Alba - In

88:59: Lol,Iniesta missed a pass. I don't know for you guys but this one and the one I noted earlier in the match are the only

balls I saw Iniesta losing directly. He is man of the match for me!

FT: 3-2 for Barcelona!

Final thoughts:

- Barcelona was clearly better but they are gonna regret that they didn't won with a larger score.

- Madrid still got great chances with these 2 goals they scored.

- The first half was really poor if compared with second half.

- This match has two turning points for me:

1. Pedro's immediate goal after CR7's opener. The match could have been different if Madrid settled in defense after the 1-0.

2. Casillas save on Messi's shot that prevents 4-1 and in the action that follows, Di Maria scores on that astounding mistake of Valdes.

Barcelona VS Madrid --- 3-2

I was quite disappointed in Tito line up. I mean no Puyol or Alba our biggest problem is defence and he weakens it in this game.

It was good to see Xavi/Iniesta were on their A game, Messi was a bit off he was doing well, but not to his usually level. Ronaldo was kinda quite the goal was the only noise he made. Alonso was a bit disappointing today also. Albiol got away with many calls.

53:02: Wow, another dive by Alexis. This one is even worse attempt. No replays needed to see that this
If your speaking about the one with Arbeloa wasn't really a dive as contact was made, but it wasn't enough for a PK as both challenged for the ball in a clean way and ended up getting tangled, I guess Sanchez just wanted to draw a PK never know when you can get lucky.

Pedro goal was on side I saw it in different angles it was a perfectly timed pass with a perfectly timed run.

Well Iniesta still has his form the same one he's been having for the past 2-3 years :p

The return leg will be a problem glad with the win ATM, but we need to go down to Madrid and walk off with a victory too now. I hope to see Puyol/Alba starting this time and maybe sometime for Villa.

Sanchez was quite a disappointment this game. I can understand because he has a lot on his plate, firstly Pedro is picking up, but I think he just hurt is arm, so will be out and Villa is back with Tello performing well, so Sanchez can be reduced to bench. Messi also told Sanchez he's going to need to count a lot on Sanchez this season.

Escorps has the rest covered.

Well, it's the same as a dive. Minor contact, mostly tangled and yeah, asked for penalty nonetheless. It's called simulation!

Pedro goal is really tight. His and last defender's legs are on the same line but his shoulders/head are ahead and a little bit offside. As per official rule, offside line is determined on shoulder-level. But still, it was really tight and it's no scandal that this has been allowed.

If it was simulation, Sanchez would have been cautioned and/or yellow carded. Players do end up slipping, getting caught up/tangled, and trip themselves at times. Actually when I was a kid training in football they told me than that the slightest contact can win you a foul. Ronaldo/Messi run at fast speed the slightest touch they can go down, so would we call that simulation? Its also about the intention most refs look at a players intention when a foul is made, unless that certain player has been warned. Sanchez case, he did go down easy, but contact was made and the ref knew what Ramos/Arbeloa intention were.

Well he looked quite levelled to me, even if he was offside you can't really tell from that distance. I always look at the footing of the players.

alonso for team balance and long pass,
bastian for frontal attack and short pass
Bastian is good at long passes also and he can play well with a balance team. There wasn't much different between the Madrid/Bayern side last year when they met. Not to mention Germany plays a pretty well balance game.

Supercopa championes :D:overjoy: A little late, but in your face Barca, lol :p

[Knows that this post will make Relax angry:zonder:]
Not entirely:p

All tho Valdez error did cost us the game. Funny how at the SB all the Madridstas were chanting when Valdes got the ball lol

Anyways lets look at both the teams in the past 4 fixtures. Barcelona won the first game with ease and that was 5-1, Madrid faced a tougher side and that was Valencia, who I do enjoy watching and always have hopes for them. The days with Villa/Silva/Mata. That ended in 1-1, were perhaps Valencia could have won since the offside call was questionable. We met Madrid in the Supercopa and we pretty much had control of that game, but Puyol missing and our weakness from set pieces Ronaldo scored, with Pedro to level it literally a minute later. Iniesta got fouled by Ramos in the box and Messi put the ball in the net and than the beautiful work between Iniesta/Xavi to make it 3-1, than Valdes failed to make it 3-2 (which did cost us the game). Madrid went on to lose against Getafe and Barcelona almost lost to Osasuna if it wasn't for the red and Messi scoring the two, but we played very bad.

The second leg, Barcelona knew Madrid needed result judging from the past few fixtures not to mention that for the past few years now they always played better than us in the opening 20 mins or so in SB and Barcelona were well aware of this as they quoted this in articles before the game, but yet couldn't stop them. Masch messed up on clearing the ball and gave Higuain that goal pretty much than Pique got beaten by Ronaldo with a nice touch and run by him, but instead of going towards Ronaldo to put pressure on him, Pique goes behind Valdes which gives Ronaldo enough time to control the ball and look were he wants too shoot and score. Messi took a nice FK from a distance, Casillas wall was maybe a bit off, but nevertheless it was nicely taken and made Messi the top scorer in El Clasico for Barcelona. Madrid had a few good chances once Barcelona went down to 10, but couldn't finished. Barcelona surprised me here, with 10 people they did better than with 11U_U and Pique/Masch actually saved us a few times. Barcelona also had about 4-5 one on one with Casillas (Pedro/Tello/Alba/Montoya). This was more surprising and you could see they wanted this bad, but that one person missing was noticeable.

In all Madrid really didn't dominate the game as I see most articles, or at least in youtube commentsU_U Karanka logic is Madrid should have won 5-1, but seeing those one on one chances Barcelona could have scored 4-5 goals even give them 3 of those they would have won on away goals if we were to give them (Madrid) those 5 goals, because they think it should have been that scoreline. We see that both sides need to improve, its the start, but they haven't made the biggest impact, as usally we will be facing defensive crisis with Puyol injured again as well as Alves both who we missed in this second leg. Will be lucky to make it to the semi or final this year.

Sanchez has been diving too much lately also. I know he has a lot of pressure from Vilanova and wants to play key role for Barcelona, but by doing this he will just ruin his own name and give our club a bad name than we already have because of Busquets/Alves.
