No you fail right here with the explanation. His sharingan absorb he never uses to my knowledge to absorb incoming missiles projectile etc...
He uses to absorb people... With that jutsu in deed both dimensions are about to make him take a big hit if he tries that.

But we're talking about RINNEGAN absorb of ninjutsus. Much like Pain, or Madara.

Again you're mistaking in thinking sharingan absorb when in fact I'm talking about rinnegan absorb... rinnegan don't send anywhere it just absorbs.. remember? Madara absorbed a rasen shuriken mid air with rinnegan (first rinnegan apparition on madara).

My only possible explanation is that Tobi cannot use the tech while in the other dimension. Perhaps since he is using Kumai to port himself out, he cannot use anything else while in the other dimension avoiding the attack.

I hope my explanation makes sense, but basically I'm saying perhaps he can't use any other techniques while phased out in his other dimension?

this is probably the only possibility ... but we have seen nagato use multiple techniques (when fighting naruto/bee/itachi) at the same time. i know they are different eyes and all, but if nagato is able to use multiple techs at the same time then why couldnt tobi?

some might say its because he has 2 different eyes, and thus he could not. but theres no way to prove that point yet.
