Those people claiming Nagato can defeat non Edo Rinnegan Madara are deluded, however that being said Nagato would give Madara a rather good fight than the current 5 Kages are giving. Rinnegan vs Rinnegan itself would completely be landscape changing as well.

But Nagato>EMS Madara.

Hiruzen is over-rated but Nagato isn't. Nagato is easily still 1 of the strongest characters in Naruto. Only reason why he lost is because Naruto had 8 tails.
