Which 5 characters in Naruto is very smart and genius ?
I will probably make a list to the top 5, first of all , number 1 is the smartest and next to 5.
1. Minato : Because while his fighting, he is very calm and very good to at finding out the opponent's battle tactics, and manage to find their weakness at the same time. He is a ninja who possess very special kind of power. He can detect people by put a finger on the ground like Tobirama. Minato is a nice person. I don't know why he is so smart, but his brain can cope with the opponent's weakness, even better than a sharingan user.
2. Shikamaru : Here is my reason why I'am putting him on number 2. Because when Shikamaru fights, he even thinks about the opponent's battle tactic like Minato does, but not better than him of course. While he fighting someone he can find a method that makes the opponent struggling. His level can reach up to Minato, but the weakness and something like that, Minato probably is better than Shikamaru on that. Shikamaru battle tactics, are fighting strategy, like when he fought with Hidan, when he seen it once, he can make up a good method how to stop it. Thanks to him, Kakashi was able to avoid many of hidans attacks.
3. Itachi : His intelligence is definitely clever, also almost no one could have stand a chance against his brain. Itachi's battle tactic, is genjutsu all of u shall know that. Because every time he fighting someone powerful like Sasuke or Danzo example he can place them under a genjutsu without them knowing it.
Itachi always know exactly what his doing, besides his battle tactic are also by finding their weakness too, but not always. He knows that He can't even stand a chance against Jiraiya that time, not even Kisame either, also he warned Kisame that Kakashi can really hurt him badly, but not kill him of course., That's my reason.
4. Shikaku : Shikaku is Shikamaru's dad, and he is a clever shinobi like Shikamaru too. When the 4th great ninja war started, he used a strategy that can really do the job, by showing A and Tsunade on a folder tactics. Even Kakashi said that Shikaku is smarter than him and let him stepped in for Kakashi like the sixth or seventh hokage that time, when Danzo died. His brain is just like Shikamaru's brain, but I haven't seen so much of his fight yet.
5. Danzo ( just kidding ), why, because he lost all his sharingan for nothing against Sasuke. He should know that he can't break Sasuke's susano by a taijutsu punch or something like that, also I know that is not easy to defeat susano or Sasuke of course. But his brain is just like his attacking automatically. Sure he is powerful, but think carefully, his brain can't even reach up to Sasuke's brain, even Naruto is smarter than him.
But the number 5 is Kakashi : Here is my reason. Someone said Kakashi is the same level of Shikamaru's level, and I really believe that. Because If the opponent use any ninjutsu or battle tactic, Kakashi can change the situation and finding a method, but It's to risky, I clearly say this, Kakashi is not on Minato's level. He knows what susano is, Amaterasu, Tsukyomi, every jutsu, that's why I put him on number 5.
