Who could succeed in Jiraya's mission against Pain??

It is hard to think about anyone who can kill pain in those situations, if he wants to fool his opponent by letting them think that they have won, he can do it with ease like he did with Jiraiya, and i see everyone meeting the same fate as Jiraiya if he does that.

the only people who I think would have a chance just because of their intelligence and how strong they are would be Minato, Oro, 2nd Mizukage(because Pain also wouldnt be able to figure out his genjutsu)...mass genjutsu might be pains weakness, BM Naruto, Tobi(with no info he still dodges all attacks), 3rd Raikage, 4th Raikage(both of them because v2 A would probably be too fast for 6paths shared vision to keep up with)

What itachi said to kisame at the time was meant to deceive kisame because he didn't want to fight jiraiya ITACHI WAS FAR STRONGER THAN OROCHIMARU who is probably just as strong as jiraiya. The only one strong enough to face itachi was shisui or tobi itachi never really got a chance to showcase his full strength even while fighting kabuto who was clearly no match for him. In addition to all that he had shisui's eye. THINK ABOUT IT naruto perfected sage mode and naruto's sage mode is no match for susanoo which itachi probably perfected. AS FOR PAIN ITACHI'S VISUAL PROWESS would stop his six paths cold because his weakness is genjutsu and that's itachi's greatest strength. COME ON THIS DUDE WAS ABLE TO USE IZANAGI'S COUNTER WITHOUT THE FIRST HOKAGE'S DNA WHAT MORE DO U WANT

ITACHI definitely he had all the weapons needed to fight pain susanoo for defense and offense after all he was the one who figured out how to stop his chibaku tensie in an instant he's also the only ninja other than madara to release THE EDO TENSIE that not even the first or second hokage could.

he probably wouldn't be able to go up against nagato when he was younger and had the use of his legs but after using gedo mazo i do think that he could y? ok here goes. I remember naruto fighting the six paths while in nine tails form was able to with stand shinra tensie and bounce it back on pain now itachi is far stronger than naruto even if naruto should go all ninetails and shit naruto still wouldn't be able to beat itachi fighting at 100% using susanoo and all if naruto mini ninetails was able to withstand shinra tensie itachi's susanoo could do that and more and after pain uses that technique depending on how powerfull it is he takes a while to recover if itachi was able to gaurd against him using a powerfull shinra tensie the fight would be over. which is why i think madara never used it while fighting the five kages because it would create an opening AND MADARA IS FAAARRRR STRONGER THAN PAIN HECK EVEN TOBI IS STRONGER THAN PAIN

Nagato-Pain had a good amount of knowledge on Jiraiya and Jiraiya had next to none on Nagato-Pain, also the plot demanded that a Top Tier ninja loose there so that Naruto can show his stuff when he prevails against Nagato-Pain. So I don't see any Top Tier ninja pulling it off under those circumstances. So it would require a Demi-God Tier or God Tier Ninja to win: Tobi (Rinnegan + Bijuu), BM Naruto, Madara, Hashirama, or Rikudo Sennin.
