Itachi is my favorite or second favorite character but I agree people are trying to push him further on the tier lists than what he is. Hey, being on par with SM Jiraiya isn't bad either. The guy's strong. Took down the animal path with 1 arm against the 6 paths at once after all.

I do think some people believe Jiraiya is some weak guy or something.

the reason that kishi never put him against a strong opponent was because in a way itachi was always a good guy. think about it, early on he had a chance to kill kakashi, guy, asuma and kurenai but he didnt, chose to spare sasuke and even let him kill him, had many an opportunity to kill naruto but he didnt.Itachi was able to talk the talk and walk the walk he just chose not to. It was never itatchis place to square off against beast opponents, but you do forget that he did take down a couple of perfect jinchurikis.

the jiraiya pein fight was meant to b dramatic because it was student vs master and the reason jiraiya had liitle knowledge against him was because he left nagato at an early age.

there was never any need for kishi to put itachi into an epic battle to the death, his role was to b a secret hero until the very end

Well when you have a technique that gives you complete protection and the ability to seal anyone or anything, you do kinda get pushed up there on the "tier" list. Kind of a bullshit technique if you ask me for Kishi to give someone, then again my favorite character has a technique who can warp something to another dimension, so I can't really say much.

So why Kishi didn't do Orochimaru max potnetial vs Itachi? Why didn't Kishi do Itachi vs Kabuto, why'd he add Sasuke? Kishi has never put Itachi against a super powerful opponent for some reason.

it wasnt 3 vs 1, naruto and bee couldnt touch nagato cause of shinra tensei itachi was the only one able to touch him thanks to amaterasu so technically it was a 1 vs 1 fight.

he did get rid of the real orochimaru, i mean how did he know that a part of orochimaru was sealed in ankos curse seal and itachi was dead before he could find out about kabuto implanting the cells into his own body, so yes in a way he did get rid of orochimaru,this new one is kinda like a clone.

and finally the Uchiha clan massacre happened when they were alive. when sasuke was reliving itachis memory in tsukoyomi it should his family members rushing at an unknown assaliant just to b cut down, plus his parents were awake and talking to itachi before he killed them they just chose not to fight back.

Ok this is a better answer. But what about Jiraiya/Pain. Kishi chose to make Jiraiya lose to the strongest person up to that point.

Maybe because he was the strongest hero from Konoha at this point (Tsunade mentioned this also). Because why should one Akatsuki fight the other? Itachi was also a treat to Pain and Tobi. We can discuss about whether Tobi is stronger or not, but both respected each other. Itachi couldn't kill Tobi but Tobi was either scared of Itachi and didn't try to harm Konoha, just like Pain acted after Itachis death first. Itachi was after all Tobis student, he was trained by him and was is closest ally. So here you have Itachis portrait.

And besides Kishimoto is tending to hype characters in certain situations to make them look greater. Earlier, when Itachi was just a random person in an unknown organization while Jiraiya was a main hero and Sensei of Naruto.

But with the time the feats were tending more and more to Itachis favor.

Some comments in the thread says it all. I personally feel like Itachi is overhyped by fans, though the same can be said for all strong characters. But the fact that some people have to resort to attacking those who do not share their views really does give others a bad impression of that fanbase.

my mistake if i read yourthread wrong but i think kishi portrayed itachi perfectly i mean think about it. when naruto and them were young all they talked about was how itachi killed off his entire clan, that he was an s-ranked criminal and that he joined akatsuki.

i think that if kishi portrayed him to b less than what the fans expected that it would have made itachi seem weak if he didnt live up to his legend or ifkilled before fascing sasuke.

on the flip side i think that if kishi put itachi into battle with nagato and all of them and came out on top that fans would view him as being too strong, thats y kishi set up jiraiya and pein to fight to show y pein was the leader of akatsuki i mean what better way to show of the leader of the akatsukis power then by having him square off against one of the legendary sannin who was a beast.

so all in all i think kishi has made the right moves with itachi without making him come off as being too weak or strong. i give props to kishi.

p.s. i am a little bias towards the uchiha clan they are my favorite clan and contain my two favorite characters, but all that aside i argue my side logically and try to give facts from the manga, and in this case i agree with how hes been portrayed.

Why did Itachi run away from Nagato if he could of got Nagato without blinding him/Kabuto?
He ran away because he knew that he couldnt face Nagato head on even if he was a brainless cripple and after that he hit Nagato from behind because Kabuto didnt know Nagatos summons were killed
