Now,that you have pointed out the problem how about looking for a solution.
Something we can do about this.
Well, I can't say I know how to turn all who copy/paste into people whom actually post, trying to give a more conscious welcome, not only for post count or whatever.
They will do as they please, we can only do as much to change that, so I think that the best thing to do is to give our own welcomes in a fashion that makes the new ones feel welcomed, by being interactive.

Also, I've started to urge them on to tell us more than a simple 'sup..' by asking them to say more. As OhReary explained, it is hard when you don't have much to reply to/work with, so ask them to introduce themselves properly instead:hint:

Do you have any ideas?

I usually use a template (copy paste as you say) but sometimes it depends on the member i am welcoming... I Mean that if he has a question, or wants to know something, i modify my post to include that answer as well.

And if new members actually took a little time to look over the links most members post in their welcoming template, there wouldn't be any need for additional threads.

I'm sure you've heard of the group "NartoBase Welcome Committee" I was thinking of making a group "NarutoBase Newbie Guide". And sending an invite to everyone who makes a konichi wa thread.
You see the global rules and FAQ's etc are way to long and no one feels like reading them (even i've never read them all) so, I was planing on making short and to the point revised version of these and posting them in the group.
Its a lot of work but its worth it if it makes NB a better place for Newbies.
So far I've revised the Global rules and the NB Role playing system. I'm working on FAQ's:D

I see~

Ah, in which case we would waste less space, but that, unfortunately, isn't always how it is, so being interactive is more effective in the end.

Also, I'm thinking, and this is only a conjecture, that if they somehow understand what's going on, the copy/paste thing, they would probably just ignore those posts and so miss out on the links, though I'm just guessing here.
At least that's what I would do, well, I'd make note on whom it was that copy/pasted in my thread and haunt them for the rest of their NB lives... That was a joke. Seriously.

@Talha: They are long, the global rules(fairly long at least) but I feel that common sense should cover the most of it really, so things which could be new and outside of the box of common sense thinking, would be things such as multi-posting, bumping threads etc. if you're new to forums altogether.
I haven't heard of that group!xd
It might make things easier for them, good luck~

Man, I don't even go there anymore. I got tired of typing welcomes ;D
It was : "-Copy/paste with modifications-"
I can't say I'm as active as I used to be in that section either. I try to, but it just doesn't happen as often anymore, and it was quite a while ago since I made a declaration of love in that section~

They don't need to read the whole thing, just the titles so that if they ever have a question they know where to look for an answer and not make a separate thread. Although most members don't even read the rules so how could we expect them to read those links.

I see~

We all know you are a stalker so there's no point in hiding it xd

And i see where you are going with the copy/paste thing, yea it could be somewhat annoying, some newbies could think that we post there without even reading their own post... which is not the case, for me at least.

To date, I've only greeted one person in there, and it was an original post, no copying. When I joined I didn't realize that people were just posting in there to raise their post count. It felt like a genuine reception, and made me feel welcome. Now that I know it was just for post count, I still don't mind since it left me with a good feeling initially.

So no, I don't think there's anything wrong with the copy/paste. ;)

Yay :overjoy:
The first impression is all that matters, cause later on you learn the ways around the forum and begin to understand how things go.
And i agree with you, for post count or not, it's nice to see that someone takes some time to post in your thread, and most of the times tries to help you :D

The problem is that the konnichiwa section is just a way to raise their post count for most people.

On topic: I hardly post there anymore nowadays, but usually I just made some alternation to similar looking welcomings.

My posts in Konnichi Wa! look like this:

Konnichi Wa! is for new members to introduce themselves and is not the place to post Naruto-Related Discussion. Please read the Section descriptions in addition to the titles before creating a thread. Also, posting more than one reply without another member posting in between is prohibited and is known as Multi-posting. Please take a look at the Global Rules before continuing:

I can relate to that, since my own konnichiwa thread wasn't all copy/paste, but some where, and when I tried to make contact, no response -_-'...
Also, I never said there is anything wrong about it, I don't believe in roght and wrong to begin with, just that it annoys me a bit.

@Sveti: Are those for all the confused souls out there?xd

-A warm welcome which adapts to every new introduction, leaving our newbie blushing!-

Maybe not blushing, unless the like something/someone I do, but close enough.
