The Escorp Final FT Analysis
Spain 4 - 0 Italy
- A big congrats to Spain for a historic treble. Hats off to deliver your biggest performance on this Euro on the final. It's the highest score in a Euro final btw.
- It's really unexpected (before the match) to see such a landslide but Italy - once reduced to 10 - was unable to do anything in this match. Sad that they played with such a handicap during 60 minutes.
- I said before the match that Spain is favorite due to his chance to win this treble and that indeed proved a big difference motivationally.
- As I said before the start, if Spain will win this Euro, it will due to his [add superlative] midfield and that was it. Grandiose performance by Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Fabregas and Co.
- Another thing, Spain's fatigue factor was a big interrogation and I really thought that Portugal will use that against them. Luck sided them big time then and I knew they were destined then. Forget tiredness and external factors. And I was right - they never seemed as fresh during this final.
- Italy tried in first half but the really goal disrupted their tactic completely. Then came the second goal at a crucial time. And then, the last blow was the injury of Motta and that was the final nail on their coffin IMO. The last 2 goals are just silver lining and more records stat for a record-making Spanish side.
- There was amazing stats where Italy had better possession of ball during half-time and that kinda showed that possession stat don't prove anything; efficiency make all the difference and Spain was notches above Italy. Oh there was a penalty not given to Spain but no one will remember that
- Casillas was brilliant on the mere chances Italy got and very authoritative during the set-pieces. I questioned the decision of lack of striker a lot but they were so efficient today that it didn't posed problem. Fabregas did a assist-cross for the first goal to Silva. Iniesta pass to Fabregas was superb - as superb as the pass of Xavi to Alba for 2nd goal.
- Alba was really good (whoever said he was a flop). I think he was perhaps the biggest revelation of this Euro. Really happy for Torres. Goal in 2 finals and an altruist assist to Mata. The rest of La Roja were all well-composed.
- Italy tried as I said but none of their players could do wonders. And I'm a bit sad to criticism them when they clearly couldn't keep hoping after Motta left them.
- Iniesta is the best player of this Euro IMO; followed by Pirlo and CR7. To my list previously posted, I'd like to add a player that I forgot (unfairly perhaps) who is Iker Casillas. Clearly one of the best Spainish in this Euro. I'm going to make a Top 20 soon though; we might discuss it then.
- In the end, I don't have much to say since Spain's victory is so clear-cut in this final. A historic treble by a strong side with a blessed midfield, it says it all.
