I doubt the whole of the Uchiha clan was in on the coup so a lot of them who got killed during the massacre were just victims by association....since all of the major players in Konoha knew about the coup it would have been extremely difficult for the Uchiha leading the coup unless they had gotten some outside help I don't see them doing much but dooming Konaha to be invaded by other villages so nothing gets accomplished......

Since they were rebelling, I would also think Itachi would be forced to fight for the Uchiha, seeing as Sasuke was pretty much dead if they lost. I think the Uchiha would have come out on top, barring a complete war in the Leaf against all of Konoha.

To fight against a normal Sharingan user you have to look at their feet or have decent proficiency in releasing genjutsu.

this everybody saying that Uchiha takes the village is assuming every Uchiha is an über badass and everyone in Konoha will just lay down come on.....
