Had to be Itachi. Jiraiya's wasn't heart-wrenching because most of us could tell he was going to die. No one expected, to see Itachi's side, or how Danzo wasn't a truly evil person, how the hokage didn't issue the order to eradicate the clan but wanted to use words to stop. No one realized that Itachi could cry. We all knew that he loved the village but to see all that happen just tears at the soul and kinda makes it seem like his mind is just as twisted as Sasuke's(imo). Itachi is a saint and martyr. Jiraiya was just ehh(imo)

Itachi's story is sadder overall, but I was more affected by Jiraiya's death.

I can't put one death over the other like that, it just doesn't feel right in my opinion. Both of them were very sad and touching.

Jiraiya's story/death wasn't depressing in my opinion, but inspiring. It was pretty touching seeing how devoted he was to bringing peace. We can see that he has almost succeeded in this goal with his teaching of Naruto.

Jiraiya's life wasn't really all that sad, his death was but he didn't have an extraordinarily sad life.

Itachi's life was sadder imo, felt bad for him watching him cry when he was going to kill his parents.

Whose is more sad? Really? Well, since Jiraiya never had a 'sad' story then Itachi. The shit Itachi had to do probably sucked.

If you're talking about the actual manga material like Itachi's death, and the last page previous chapter, Jiraiya's death and all that? In that case, if you say Itachi's is more sad then you're ridiculously retarded and I would contemplate smacking you through your computer.

Wow you really have a problem with other people having different opinions than you huh? Different people, different minds, different "realities". "sad" or "gross" is different for everyone, it's all subjective man.

No, I have a problem with people thinking that a nice picnic and day at the zoo with the family is the somehow sadder than a tragic death story, the difference is massive.

I'm not talking about Itachi's back story I'm talking about the entirety of both their stories, Itachi's death and its aftermath wasn't very well done or sad, it wasn't supposed to be. When did I have a problem with someone having another opinion or say it wasn't objective?

Yeah I know, but I'm talking about the whole thing lol. Jiraiya never had a bad "past" like Itachi having to kill some of his family, but while that's more sad, overall the entirety of the story Jiraiya's death and the results were far worse

The difference is that itachi is more tragic in the sense that when he does initially die, he dies with all the other characters still thinking he's a cold-blooded, genocidal killer. It's not until after he's dead that you learn how he gave his whole life away, swallowed his love for his family, as tobi said "wept tears of blood and slaughtered his brethren" and took all the insults in complete silence despite the pain and guilt, for close to a decade.

Jiraya's death scene was much sadder script-wise, because he gives a lengthy-dying speech at the end of his long, full life.

The sadness during Itachi's death was completely through imagery, no words were spoken, but you can clearly tell a part of sasuke had died there along with his brother, and its not until tobi begins explaining Itachi's true motives that words are connected with that imagery. and Tobi kind of evn ruins THAT by telling more half-truths.
