So I was thinking about the current inconsistencies regarding time-at-death and Edo revival state.

I think this possibility works. The Edo's are revived no matching time-at-death, but instead matching the time of DNA extraction. So if you were to use DNA from a young Itachi, you would get a young Edo. I don't think there are any facts to support this, but it could explain several inconsistencies.

Thoughts?

I think it still gives the same results, regardless of young DNA.

a persons DNA doesnt get younger...DNA is a blueprint of a person so youre wrong. if they were to be revived, they would come back the same age right before they died unless their specific body was messed around with like madaras

Sorry, that's not possible.

Kabuto stated that many of the victims were dug up long after they died and were nothing but rotted piles of flesh

DNA mutates with age. DNA isn't static.

Depends how you look at it. When we die, growth ends. DNA does in-fact mutate with age, albeit slightly.

It is difficult to predict what kishi will do. He seems to make up some of the Naturo universe rules as he goes. Some of it is loosely based on real-world fact, with other elements being pure fantasy.

I'm completely fine with what I suggested being wrong, but I would sure like an idea of what these rules could be. Maybe there are no rules and its just a form of plot-no-jutsu
