Kabuto, Madara, and even Dan, who was alive with Hiruzen, said the only person that could stand up to Madara is Hashi. Nothing was said about Hiruzen. Kishi tries to show information in the manga without actually having someone say it out loud. Some people just don't pick up on the info tho.
