guys. kishi the creater has interviewed about this and its been posted before. At the time of the series when itachi had died against sasuke. he was asked who the strongest shinobi in the series were. Instead of a direct anwser "because the entire series was/is still unfolding". he said "of the dead shinobi. minato is definetly the strongest." then hesitated a bit and said "he prolly shares the spot with hiruzen.".

If that doesn't make sense. Think of it in that what the creator says is LAW.

If there's a time where you think your interpretation would be better then the creators. I don't think this is one of those times.

you can't just declare things because you go O.O wetting yourself at a new attack.

I believe that people dont understand why hiruzen is the strongest hokage and im thinking about making a thread. Basically this is why hiruzen is the strongest hokage. He was trained by both the 1st and second hokage who were leaders of the senju and that clan was said to be a clan with a 1000 skill (or some shit like that). If you notice hashirama had loads of scroll, scrolls that if you are elected hokage you are entitled to and i believe one of those scrolls is what naruto stole at the beginning of the series.

Now Hiruzen being a part of the sarutobi clan who were said to have natural talent in learning ninjutsu fast, its reasonable to say due to his old age, plus this natural ability he has mastered all the scrolls/ninjutsu's that existed in konoha. He has done something that not even his 2 former masters did in their life time. Further more if you look at the db he is the only person, yes only person to get a 5/5 for all 3 forms of ninja art and this speaks volumes. No wonder he was called the professor.

Now because he was the student of the 2 hokages he knows their techniques very well, so much so that if he was to fight them he would be able to counter and we saw this. The weakness of the Kokuangyo no Jutsu is that apart from the eye sight being taken away from you, all your othe senses are there and because hiruzen being the student of the 1st knew of this technique and its weakness he used his nose (sense of smell) to track hashirama;

Secondly Enma is a good counter for mokuton and we have seen this. Hashirama used the same technique as edo madara when he first used the mokuton. The technique was Mokuton Hijutsu: Jukai Kotan. Enma not only made mokuton look like a twig it also protect hiruzen;

Tobirama being a master of suiton jutsu. Hiruzen knew this and was able to counter his Suiton suiryudan, with doton doryuuheki;

The reason why Hiruzen is the strongest hokage is NOT solely based on raw power but knowledge on his counterparts to defeat them in a fight. Its his knowledge on his teachers abilities that will allow him to defeat them in a fight thats why he is strongest amongst them. Note the word amongst them because i believe people dont understand this.

If we were to give hashirama and hiruzen 10 top shinobi's to fight in a 1 vs 1 situation, i believe hashirama would win majority of his fights and i cannot say the same for hiruzen. So whilst hiruzen is the strongest hokage due to his knowledge on his former teachers, if we were to take this a step further and place them both outside the criteria of hokage hashirama is stronger, but if were to revert this and place them in the criteria of hokage hiruzen is stronger.

Hashirama is stronger but for reasons stated above hiruzen would most likely beat him majority of the times. Its not raw power that makes hiruzen stronger than hashirama

First off, check out his eyes, they're in the rinnegan state.... Meaning this perfect susanoo is activated through the rinnegan..... And as I recall, Madara did not have rinnegan when he fought hashirama.

But yea you're still right anyway, Madara is still pretty boss without this perfect susanoo, so hashirama must have really been a beast xd

just because he has rinnegan eyes doesn't mean that he needs it to use stabilised susano'o - afterall - he wouldn't know how to use this technique unless he had used it atleast once before - either he had rinnegan during the fight with hashi or u can use it without rinnegan

It was pretty much confirmed this chapter that Madara used this susanoo against Hashirama, so it's actually the power of EMS, not the rinnegan.

The only thing that was confirmed, was that Madara hasn't taken the kage seriously. Unlike hashirama, he hasn't felt the need to actually fight them.
All he said, was that in the fight with hashirama, they destroyed the terrain and then some. It doesn't mean he used this perfect susanoo, mind you which is being used with rinnegan, against hashi.
Unless of course he did, which I doubt, but that would mean A: he had rinnegan when he went up against hashi
Or B: the rinnegan is only used to "stabilize" the susanoo's chakra.

Imo, its my first statement, but it could also be B, and I highly doubt A xd

I think he had to have had the perfect form when he fought with Hashirama or else I am sure Madara would have commented on it. I'm sure he would have said something along the lines of I wish I had this when I fought with Hashirama or he would said something like Hashirama wouldn't have defeated me if I had this perfect form or I would have been the first hokage if I had this perfect form then. You see how cocky the man is, even though he has a very cocky personality, he still gives praise to Hashirama.

Ummm Tsunade said did my grandfather really beat this? And then Madara says only Hashirama can defeat me when using his perfect susanoo. He then proceeds to level the terrain in which he said with only him it wasn't so bad, but with Hashirama the entire map would need to be rearranged.

It may not be completely confirmed, but once you put 2 and 2 together it's obvious he had when fighting Hashirama.

He's had his rinnegan active while using susanoo for the entire fight, so that really doesn't prove much.

That being said, I'm still of the group that believes that Hashirama > Hiruzen

I think Hiruzen knew more abilities and maybe even mastered more, but he did not have the sheer power of Hashirama.
