After Sasuke tells Itachi why would he protect the village, which Itachi claims that this is the least he could do for Naruto, since he entrusted on him many things. If you haven't realized, ever since Sasuke got ****ed up by Itachi the first time they met after the genocide of their clan, Sasuke has been a jealous little bitch to Naruto. He refuses to take Itachi's eyes until he sees Naruto and after they meet, he needs his "full power" to defeat Naruto. He has always been envious ever since the day he woke up from his coma.

Sasukes not going to think rationally about a statement like that by itachi. Hes going to react emotionally. He didnt care when zetsu said naruto was stronger than him but you bet he'll care if itachi said that. Remember, he thinks itachi is perfect and still looks up to him.
