you are a fanboy and as for itachi vs sasuke battle itachi wasn t trying to hit sasuke. sasuke proved it himself when he used amaterasu. 2.raikage had to use bodyflicker to dodge amaterasu and For the travel part you are right it travels however you mast have the eyes to keep up with it example raikage s eye is used to speed such as his own. just because raikage dodge it doesn t mean it s faster and has for minato idk about this one if he can dodge it or not Cuz i am unsure

You answered my question. "he punched through an amaterasu wall". Amaterasu is Amaterasu no matter how it's used. Sasuke has been deemed better than Itachi, in regards to Amaterasu. Amaterasu would've killed the Raikage had he not cut his arm off.
The Raikage chose to punch through the Amaterasu, he knew it was there before he punched through it. He did so at the cost of his arm, knowing he would lose it. It was a defensive Amaterasu, which has nothing to do with whether he could dodge it or not since he made the conscious choice to attack regardless. When the Amaterasu was used offensively, it was dodged. The Raikage chose what damage he took from it. If Gaara had not stopped the Raikage's Guillotine Drop, Sasuke would have died, although the Raikage would have died as well.
Btw, I don't think it's overrated. It's not the most powerful jutsu, but it is still amazing.
I think amaterasu needs to be explained a little more... cuz it seems like you need super speed or reflexes to dodge it but, like in the sasuke and itachi fight all sasuke had to do is run in a circle to dodge it. Since it has been shown that amaterasu can be dodged pretty easy i totaly agree with this thread... good job
Lets be serious, without amaterasu what could sasuke really do to naruto. His susano is based off amaterasu too. So no amaterasu equals no susano. Amaterasu is powerful, and only the caster can end it.
Keep in mind that we've never seen it used with "intent to kill". Sasuke was trying to capture Bee and Itachi clearly wasn't trying to kill Sasuke. It's possible that Amaterasu could be used in a wide angle blast, covering everything in the user's field of vision.

First of all, you must know that i'm not discrediting Amaterasu when i make this thread. I'm only there to give my analysis about this jutsu that maybe people failed to notice.
I mean, i don't understand why Amaterasu is that overestimated when we're talking about a jutsu that didn't even killed "one" person in this manga apart maybe from fodders. Each times it was used, the opponent managed to dodge it. Not saying it was easy to do, but still:
- Sasuke manage to evade it a little bit, and when it touched him, he used kawarimi no jutsu from orochimaru
- When Killer-bee was touched, he also used kawarimi no jutsu to evade it.
These 2examples shows that even when you get touched by the flammes, it's not over at all. You can "simply" use kawarimi to escape from it.
- A managed to dodge it with his speed. That means also that speed is another method to escape from it, but no one is as fast as Raikage obviously except from Minato or Naruto and maybe some others we don't know.
- Killer-Bee has also shown recently that it was capable to attack the user before he uses it:

That shows that to use Amaterasu, there is a small preparation you need in order to concentrate a little bit before launching it. That's why experimented ninjas could notice it and prepare themselves to dodge it.
Amaterasu is an instant jutsu yes, but what people forget also to understand is that "it doesn't appear directly on the target you see" like people sometimes claim, but "it travels to reach this target". Zetsu said "it converges to a spot". Converge here means it lands to some point, so it travels. Even if it's fast obviously. And the scene with Raikage prove my point:

Look carefully at this pic. At the start we can see that Amaterasu is where the Raikage is. If it appeared, it would have touched him at that time, which is not the case. Then the Raikage see it approaching and thanks to his speed, he dodges it easily at the last moment.
What should also enter into consideration is that "when the Raikage dodged the attack", Amaterasu continued to travel and reach the samurai who was behind:
