Blargh, I'm sick of people comparing Shika to Itachi. Shika is nothing compared to Itachi. Neither is Minato. Minato is an imbecile. You can tell, he was so caught up in his wife and his family blah blah blah, Itachi is too intelligent for crap like that. He's always planning ahead. I agree with Blaze Release (WOW YOU ARE A BOSS, thanks for commenting on this thread ) I have a feeling Itachi knew about Tobi but kept it a secret for a good reason, we just don't have enough info to say why...

The statement was Itatchi is kicking Kabuto's ass. Who he's protecting has nothing to do with the fact that either him(if it weren't for edo) or Sasuke would have been taken out by that, also as Vegeta said Sasuke could have protected himself. My point is the fight is far from an ass kicking.

Someone who got fooled by Tobi can't be considered as the most intelligent. If we must chose one, it's Tobi who was even able to fool an entire alliance army.

I don't want this thread to end up about Kabuto. But i'll make it short, the fight isn't an ass kicking and that picture was only to show that. Also Kabuto wants to reclaim Itatchi as his edo and capture Sasuke, he's not 100% on killing them either.

There is nothing that explicitly states that itachi is smarter than shikamaru or vice versa. Therefore, it is up to personal opinions and reasonings as to who is smarter.

As per my personal opinion and reasonings, I think that shikamaru is still smarter than itachi.

Clearly you think otherwise, and I respect that.

Kabuto he started from nothing (and against all odds) to become something.
Alone, he played Konoha like a puppet .
Alone, he was able to blackmail a Rinnegan user.
Alone, he was able to become a sage.

Don't only be blind and see Itachi planed ahead. All his plan failed. Amaterasu? failure. KA? Failure. Even the identity of Tobi, he doesn't know, when Tobi knew all about him, and outsmarted him. Tobi is smarter than him.

He broke out of edo tensei due to luck. He gave the crow to Naruto to use on Sasuke and got lucky to meet Naruto in the war, which lead to him breaking out.

As for the thread question, no. He's definitely in the top five, but not the most intelligent. Minato planned things further ahead than Itachi ever did, both in life and in death. Shikaku and Shikamaru are probably the best strategists in the series, thinking on Shikamaru's fight with Hidan and Temari, and that his father's apparently smarter than he is. Jiraiya was also very intelligent, given the right circumstances and a lack of hot women around that is, so I think he would tie Itachi at the least.

as for thinking ahead well tell me this. wat if naruto became like gaara and hated the village and wanted to destroy it minato only had one backup plan where as itachi had many but its not his fault they failed the guy is not able to see the future and u shouldnt be blind and btw being smart and wise are two different things

Yes, but Minato made that decision because he knew he was about to die. Itachi had the many years he was in Akatsuki to come up with his back-up plans should Sasuke not return to the Leaf, one of which was only a possibility because Shisui wanted him to take his eye.

Besides, you're only looking at what they planned out after their deaths. Look at the battles they were in in life. Itachi did things mostly out of instinct or when he saw an opening. He sealed Nagato with the Sword of Totsuka cause he saw that opening. When talking about Minato, I thought back to his battle with Tobi and A. He analyzed Tobi's technique, found its weakness, and made a plan to get him to turn solid. With A, he placed his seal on Bee's tentacle SPECIFICALLY for when A attacked him, cause he knew that if he tried to attack again, he would probably kill him when he came out of the FTG jutsu. That, to me, was the ultimate insight to his strategic genius. He saw a possibility, not even that big of one, and acted to prevent it. The ONLY time I remember Itachi planning ahead in a battle was when he sealed Orochimaru after trying to get him to reappear. Now please, reanalyze your data upon reading this. Not hatin', just sayin'.

Me too. I like the 2of them, but that doesn't mean i will say Itachi is the most intelligent in the manga when Tobi outsmarted him.

Did itachi not analyse chibaku tensei, and then find the weakness? used it's strong force against it?..

Reading emotions in battle against kabuto making kabuto think he's a sensor

Minato and itachi BOTH has shown they are capable of looking at a jutsu, staying calm, and figuring out its weakness in seconds..

I said it already.. Minato had a prophecy as a guideline, and he knew since he was about to die, the savior was not him.. then he realized naruto was the savior in the prophecy..

The toad sage has never been wrong, that prophecy was 100% going to come through.. how is that really a huge feat of intelligence? he knew naruto would end up being taught by jiraya, took a gamble that he was the savior .. the feat was forseeing that naruto would one day try taking control of the fox.. that's all.. itachi has out done that easily, without any prophecy to help him make decisions ..
