His golems and gaara sand was able to block the metor (mind u they hav been fighting for days imagine how they would b fresh not chakra drained/out of it)
I also believe the metor has more of destructive force then TBB

and onoki flew up to the meteor and made it alot lighter, and yes it was suspended in the air, it only went down more because madara smashed another one into it.
