Yea we don't exactly know when the manga will end but if we're near the climax as Kishi supposedly stated in that interview recently,it would probably have been a lot shorter than it could have been.
I was daydreaming yesterday about how much the entire series could have been expanded and paced a little differently. Ultimately, by the end of the series Naruto could have been an adult/Hokage.
The way I see it, the Narutoverse is in too small of a sandbox.
Theres a 3 year time skip which probably should have been part of the manga.
In those 3 years, I would have made Naruto about as strong as he was after he beat Pain.
Give Naruto imperfect Bijuu mode around the time he would get to about 18-20.
And then have him learn/unlock his current version of Bijuu Mode around his early to mid 20's.
That would allow all the support characters we saw from the beginning of the series actually get more time to develop. Overall it seems like Kishi crammed all the power ups to his more important characters with too much ease without any risk.
I don't want to go on and on too much, because ultimately the story is what it is, but I wish Kishi would have drawn it out a lot more in a lot of areas.
This current war arc could have felt a lot more larger scale, instead it feels relatively small scale. We don't really get a good feel as to how long battles took. As far as we can tell only a few days have passed between when the Allied Shinobi Alliance gathered on the battlefield to now. (we only saw nightfall once)
Maybe I should create my own manga and borrow some ideas from all the great mangas and history and mythology like Kishi and others have, but just flesh it out a lot more.
