Ever sines Tobi got the Rinnegan someone keeps bringing up this thread about the 8 gate and Gui's death. Get it through your head 8 gate is a failure against the powers in this battlefield, you are asking Gui to die for nothing, Naruto already saved Kakashi and Gui from using their powers against the tail beast bomb that they could not stop. The 8 gate is meant to be use to save someones life at the cost of your's in the situation Gui is in against that kind of power it is useless,it won't save nobody its a meaningless death for Gui.

He felt that the eigth gate would be capable of deflecting five TBB's, he would've saved Kakashi and great helped Naruto / B so it's obviously not meaningless. He may not use it in this battle but the odds are very high that he'll use it eventually, every technique mentioned in this anime ends up being used at some point - just look back to the first mention of the mangekyou sharingan.

Also, I haven't seen someone post a thread like mine yet. Not sure why Tobi getting his rinnegan makes it relevant anyways, it only began making sense after he used the 7th gate(which was MUCH earlier) and we saw the name of the technique. Thanks for the feed back regardless.

the real question is : Would it be useful against rinegan?

I'm guessing your thinking about the absorption ability from the rinnegan. but you have to remember, the gates are meant to remove the limits of the body and make it go beyond those limits. all the moves are determined by the strength of the body and all are taijutsu. kisame was also defeated because of this, he was also a chakra absorber, but the moves made from using the sixth and sevent gate are not chakra related, the morning peacock formes flames because of the friction of the user punching the air, and the afternoon tiger is a shockwave that focusses it's power as it travels closer to the target. I'm guessing the 8th gate technique will also be a taijutsu technique and the rinnegan can not do anything more against that then a sharingan can.

so in my oppinion, yes, it would be usefull against the rinnegan, but I got a feeling it will be used against the gedo mazo statue since tobi has his impregnability technique and he can let taijutsu just slip through him

I found this via Google Translate xd
If the names of the 8th gate thechnique would be Midnight/ Evening Dragon, the japanese names could be
Midnight Dragon = Mayonaka no Doragon/ Mayonaka (no) Ryū

(don't speak Jap. so I don't know if the "no" is necessary)

or

Evening Dragon = Yoru Ryū

This could be wrong because you know, it's google translate xd
and I don't speak Japanese so I wouldn't have any idea

Nonetheless I would personally give Yoru Ryū the most chance of being the name of the 8th gate technique

8 Gait is useless against the power in this battlefield, 8 Gate won't work against a tele porter like Tobi or a powerhouse like Madara, Gui uses it He dies and nothing gets accomplish that their makes it a death that dose not serve His side at all. If Gui dies such a mealiness death it would not help Rock Lee at all, seeing His Master die this way would not inspire Lee to greatness.

Personally, I think it will be Lee who uses the 8th gate. It would be the perfect way of him becoming an excellent ninja, surpassing both Gai, his master, and Neji, his rival.

That's not true at all. Speed is Tobi's main enemy, Minato got the best of him with it and Gai would no doubt be nearly instant in his movements. His death wouldn't be meaningless and I never said he'd use it in the Tobi fight - in fact I said he'd probly use it post war. You're highly over-estimating Tobi's space-time jutsu, it's been beaten quite a few times.

Seems hard to permanently kill off a character in Naruto now a days. Think an edo lee would have permanent 8th gate and no damage from it? Lee alone would be OP, can't imagine Guy.

the worth of a shinobi is measured in how he dies, according to jiraiya. Lee would obviously accomplish something great with the 8th gate, he wouldnt use it just to deflect a tbb or something like Gai would have.

Just noticed your sig, +rep for creeping me out.

cheers :D

I would like to note that I don't think he really needs to practice an eighth gate jutsu. If you have noticed, Morning Peacock is literally just a bunch of Ultra fast punches that turn into fireballs due to their speed. Noon Tiger (or whatever) is the exact same actually, just with a faster punch, which equals a bigger and badder attack. It's not air. So really, the last one should just be some ultimate fast punch that...packs a punch. Probably impossible to defend against. Also, he could have very well read about it, because I'm sure people have gone into the eighth gate before, and so he would know what the jutsu is and how to do it.

Good point but it seems like he's at least used them in the past as he knew exactly what would happen when he used the 6th and 7th gates.

To start this thread off I just want to say that Kishi and his foreshadowing is VERY obvious and should never be over-looked. Through minor themes and details he sets up the anime and every progression in the series had an obvious beginning. (Two recent examples were when "Madara/Tobi" stood in front of the empty edo-coffin hinting to the fact that Madara was in it and Kabuto's constant regarding nature and then his use of sage mode in recent chapters.)

Basically what I'm trying to say is Kishi uses details to set up future events. Guy has always been one of my characters and I noticed something a while ago that I just decided to post regarding his gate techniques so here are the 6th and 7th gate techniques:

6th gate - Morning Peacock (Fire based taijutsu)
7th gate - Daytime Tiger (Air based shock wave jutsu)

I'm not sure if people picked up on the technique names but it seems like the gate names hint to Guy's using of the 8th gate. When jutsu are named in a way like these, they follow a pattern. The 6th gate was morning, the 7th daytime, and the 8th will be night - his ultimate technique and the end of his "youth," and, more than likely, his life.

While I'm not sure if it will out right kill him the naming of these justu definitely leads me to believe Guy will use his 8th gate, the fact he mentioned it within a recent chapter also further reinforces my thoughts. It just seems like Kishi is trying to prepare us for Guy's final technique and his possible death.

To finish this thread I think I'll talk a bit about what I feel the finaly jutsu will be.

At the moment, I'm going with, "Nighttime Dragon," and I'm going to assume it's going to be somehow related to lighting jutsu. My reasons for this are pretty simple, the nighttime is a given, the lightning style would follow the current line of the elements of these jutsu (fire to air to lightning is the order the jutsu would "beat each other" in) and the reasons for the Dragon is a bit more complex.

With credit to "OhReary" it would make sense because it follows the zodiac and the description of the zodiac's dragon perfectly follows Guy as it's, "...vigorous, strong, self-assured, proud, direct, dignified, eccentric, intellectual, fiery, and passionate." The most important thing about the dragon is its description as noble and, in the average view, a dragon is a beast and most likely green, similar to Guy's title of, "Konoha's noble green beast."

Thoughts / opinions?

all this might be...:shy::ghehe::ghehe: true... though i want him to teach all these moves to lee before dying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As heart breaking as it is, Guy IS probably gonna die. The foreshadowing is undeniable. He has been one of my absolute fave's and always will be. Its gonna come to a moment where someone is about to die and guy snaps! Releasing the last gate and causing utter destruction and then dieing in, I would guess, Lee's arms. I hope it doesn't happen but I'm sure it will. poor Guy. :'c

I don't know why, but I have this feeling that you're right. Except Lee won't die somehow (because he's the one). Obviously Lee can't do it if it kills him -- there's no way Kishi would kill him off. On the other hand, if Gai opens the eight gate, I'm pretty sure he would die. I'm not rooting for his death or anything, but it's certainly fitting; Gai's death by any other means would be unworthy.
