After Master Chief and Cortana are left stranded on the "Forward Unto Dawn" in Halo 3, the player was left guessing what our hero would do next. Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Wars, Halo: Reach, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary all passed away without any sign of where the Chief went. Now. It all comes out.
There is SO MUCH to reveal about Halo 4. Although the official released date has yet to be unveiled, many multiplayer, campaign, and other goodies have peeked out from under the wraps that is 343 Industries. Let's explore them, shall we?
CAMPAIGN
In the new Halo 4 campaign, Master Chief will face a new challenge posed in the teaser trailer presented at E3 2011. While throughout the Campagin, Cortana will begin to show weakness; giving away the obvious clue that her 7 year lifespan (explained in the Halo fiction) is coming to an end. The mysterious Forerunner planet presented in the trailer is called "Requiem". The game starts off in a frenzy to catch players up to speed on what Master Chief has done up to this point. The Covenant have returned, but not quite where we left them. They have been fused with some sort of Forerunner technology, a rogue fleet perhaps? Plenty more info has been released about the Campagin, but it would take me quite a long time to record all its features. Let's move on, shall we?
MULTIPLAYER
In Halo 4, "multiplayer" is now called "Infinity", named after the UNSC Infinity: a training vessle used to test Spartans in combat. The UNSC Infinity pretty much brings all of our purpose of multiplayer throughout 3, ODST, and Reach to a halt. This vessle surves as a training grounds, simulating every enviornment. It spans 3 kilometers wide, the largest ship in the entire organization. So, you know that one battle you did when you got that overkill and two sniper headshots on Battle Canyon? Yeah. It was a simulation. The kill never really meant a,...well,..."kill". Furthermore, 343 Industries has mentioned a small list of weapons and upgrades that will make an appearance in the next installment:
Weapons
-Assault Rifle
-DMR
-Battle Rifle
-Plasma Pistol
-Assault Carbine
-Covenant Carbine
-Rocket Launcher
-Magnum
-Sniper Rifle
Armor Abilities
-Hologram: a virtual copy of your Spartan IV that charges at distracted enemies.
-Jetpack: a thrusting pack that sends you soaring through the air
-Forerunner vision: allows the player to see through walls for a little bit.
-Active Camo: allows you to stay hidden for a short while.
Remember, this is not the FULL list of weapons and armor abilities, so don't get all mopey because your favorite weapon didn't get listed.
You may have also noticed that the Sprint ability wasn't featured in the list. Why? Because it has now made a permanent attatchment to your Spartan. That's right. Sprint is built into the suit, so no more worrying about going slow. A new game mode has also been anounced called "Regicide", a free-for-all type that sets the leading scorer as the King. Every opponent that the king kills raises his bounty.
New features in multiplayer have been added, including weapon customizations (like Call of Duty or Battlefied), no more respawn time (simply press the X button to respawn), and random weapon drops that will put power weapons randomly around the map at any time. Sadly, it has been confirmed that there will be no playable Elite characters in multiplayer.
SPARTAN OPS
Yes, I know what you're thinking: "OH GREAT! JUST LIKE SPECIAL OPS FROM CALL OF DUTY!". Think again, random player! Spartan Ops provides weekly content that provides a new CGI cutscene, new maps, and new challenges. That's right. Every. ****ing. Week. And it's all free! Yep. No premium memberships or signup. Simply hop into the new option, and check out the week's new content. Pretty sweet, huh? Of course, with every good thing comes a price. Due to the lack of support for Firefight, Spartan Ops will be replacing the beloved game mode that started off in Halo 3: ODST. Not alot of details have been provided about this feature, so I'm just going to leave it at that.
SO THERE YOU HAVE IT, FOLKS! Just a fewere major details about the next installment in the epic sci-fi game, Halo. I'm Andy Willbanks,...peace out!
