I think that Hiruzen is frankly a little bit overrated. He has no real counters for MS genjutsu, he definitely has no counter for Amaterasu, and he has nothing with which to hurt or break Susanoo.

Add into that his taijutsu is good, but not great, and his speed and strength aren't really noteworthy either.

I'm not all that sure why he was thought of as the strongest Hokage. Maybe just because he was the longest reigning Hokage.

i suppose you do have a substantial point there however anywhere i look the strongest hokage is consistently stated to be hiruzen so im thinking if anybody could go against someone as OP'ed as edo madara it would be him

from what we have seen of course he is a little overatted. Since people always assume he was the best kage since he was called the god of shinobi. But people dont realize that we only saw that from a leaf ninja point of view im sure a cloud ninja would say that the third raikage was the best or a stone ninja would say that anooki was the best.

that would be my guess too i dont see him coming out alive 10 times out of 10 but at the very least i can see him giving him one really tough fight and winning maybe 2 times out of 10

We don't know what hiruzen's prime is so its impossible to be sure but unless he has other sealings that paralyze like the sand's cloth binding technique then he'll have to use Reaper Death Seal to stop an Edo solo (don't think he can just have a shadow clone do it and survive himself, if he could im sure he will) So honestly its a Draw if he can use RDS, if not then madara would overpower him with wood/MS techniques/Rinnegan techniques. Or just drop a metor on the battlefield 0.0
