US, ranked 1st. You do the research : s

How the f*ck does that seem indian to you? ;D...

anyway yeah I mentioned Asia as a whole so that's what you probably meant but India is a big part of Asia, at least if you look at the population.

You're a bit behind in the years, this is 2012, and US lost the #1 Obese title at the start of 2011.

EDIT- Here is a list of the countries in order

That maybe true about the system but even if you are getting close to being obese then something must be wrong. In my mind a 190cm and 131kg person would be atleast borderline obese if not obese. Not trying to be mean, but just laying it out there. I haven't seen you so I can't say is it because muscles or what. As for that other guy, well can't see his lower body at all but he doesn't seem obese yeah. And doesn't fall in the category 'obese' for a reason then.

Fact is the system is there for a reason. If someone has a reason to check if he's obese then he probably is. 'Cause blaming the system like that in my mind is just finding excuses and not confronting the real issue but who am I to judge.

Oh I don't disagree that I weigh more than I should. However, I know I'm not an obese person. I'd like to get down to 240-250 myself(somewhere around 111 or so KG I guess). I'm not blaming the system entirely. I see the obesity problem in America, however, I fully believe that the system they use is most definitely full of flaws and should be changed as it's not a very accurate way to judge it. According to BMI a 6'4(193 or so cm) person should weigh 200 or less pounds(90kg or less). I'm sorry, that just makes you a bean pole. Being that skinny isn't too much better for you than being overweight.

The person I posted above is the perfect example of why the system is flawed. He's not a borderline obese person.

Thanks for your post. Didn't know that.

But is it really that the problem is FDA? 'Cause I really can't believe that America has different kinds of food than the rest of us?
From what I can tell from the first two replies that listed their daily regimen that the problem is cultural. People there just seem to be eating that stuff on daily basis 'cause that's the culture here. And with common sense I know that sausages, waffles, burgers and pizza should not be part of daily regimen 'cause they are not healthy. You should eat those sometimes yea, but not every day. Don't they teach that in schools there?

And for the record, I myself eat pizzas, kebab and chips like every weekend. Sometimes on week too. And I drink beer often too. But my food regimen consists of lots of other good food in part of those. I do not fill my regimen with all the bad food, and that seems to be the problem in US. You make a habit of what should be done sometimes.

A lot of it has to do with the FDA, but an even bigger part of it has to do with the monopolies controlling the 'food industry'.

A little article on the monopolies in the food industry, very interesting to say the least!

Take into account the average americans earnings, the fact of the matter is most Americans will buy whatever is cheapest when it comes down to it. Some people are swayed by 'name brand products'.

Organic and unprocessed food.. is believe it or not more expensive here then buying the easy, processed, and fat filled food that most American's purchase.

This country is about making money, a company doesn't care if they are selling a product that kills you as long as they are making profit off of it. That is why they will fill it full of additives, sugars, and calories. They want to make sure that as a customer you will keep coming back to them wanting more.

Edit:

Soda is a pretty big part of it as well. Everywhere you look people are drinking soda pop like it's water!

My daily menu:

Breakfast: Special K, Oatmeal, orange Juice fruit.

Lunch: Salad with fat free dressing

Dinner: Something low in fat and calories.

I don't eat fast food It's disgusting, I eat healthy organic things like that. America's food is so poisoned It's nasty. Even baby formula has been found to be bad!!

It is simple. Many people go to McDonalds and other fast food joints then order a burger (single, double, triple with bacon), a large fry, and a large coke/pepsi. That meal has 50% of their fat for the day just in the burger.

Really I look at the average american diet as bottom feeder food. Many don't care what their eating as long as it tastes good. Then they drink pop all day long and get lots of empty calories. Don't forget we don't like to exercise or get off the couch!

This is a thread for those NB users who are living in America or have lived there for the most of their life. And I want to be clear that this has not been made in flaming purposes nor do I want to blame anyone in here. I'm just curious since it's after all a serious matter and it obviously is a cultural (American) thing. And it can't just be blamed by the lack of excercise.

Reason why I made this thread is this:

About one-third of U.S. adults (33.8%) are obese.
Approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19 years are obese.

-The source for this info is: the National Health and Examination Survey (NHANES).

When I watch American movies I notice it's a tradition in there to make a majoynnaise or peanut butter sandwhiches..? And what's the other sweet thing called...anyways that surprised me 'cause sandwhich should be healthy..there's alot of f*cking calories in those..from where I'm from we just use margarine, cheese and a slice of ham in it. And I eat like 8 sandwhiches in a day --> I/We (as nation) do not have obesity problems.

And I also heard from a friend of mine who was an exchange student in US that Americans daily regimen consists of from a lot of white grain products. And that you eat veeerry fat rich meals for breakfeast. Like bacon and eggs etc..that's what messes me up, breakfeast should atleast be the most healthy meal in a day?

So I want to ask you guys living in US: From what kind of meals does your normal day regimen consists of? Ingredients etc..
If you answer you eat four times in a day and two of them are warm meals that doesn't tell me anything. So I'd like to hear specifics like for example: do you use lot of side dishes in your meals? do you use only products with "normal" fat levels and not the light type ones? I'm just curious.

~So, replies, questions, thoughts as for what you think are the reasons why Americans have a serious obesity problem..?~

To standards for "obesity" are off. According to the charts we use to determine obesity, my numbers say that I am obese. However, my own doctor had to do a double take at the charts because he said if I were at the wieght the charts says, I would look sick.

The problem with the chart is it is only based on weight x height. (I know, some of you will argue about the Body Mass Index which allows for you to be "Taped Off" i.e. measured to determine your percent of body fat). That is a good point, but when the majority go in for their annual physical, they don't get taped off so it just goes down as obese.

I'm in the U.S. Armed Forces so my weight is more scrutinized and I am certainly not obese in the sense of what that word usually implies.

As for my diet, it's pretty p*ss poor but that's because I'm also a full-time college student and only serve part-time in the Armed Forces so I have little money and can't afford to buy/prepare my own meals and be picky. Because of that, I work off the high-fat foods by exercising.

I eat a pretty big variety of different foods. Eggs, PB&J, Ham/Turkey Sandwhiches, Pork Chops, Burgers, Pizza, Broccoli, Asparagus, Chicken, Peas, Carrots, Quesadillas, Sushi, etc.

The obesity issue is in large part due to fast food which is eaten waaaay too often. It also doesn't help that healthier foods tend to more expensive and more difficult to prepare.

I eat what every other American eats re-re-refried chicken with overly glased donuts, nachos with cheese and chilly dip, deep fried broccoli (gotta be healthy) a bowl of gravy and large cup of any american favorite drink grease. and a small cup of Diet Sprite...since I'm on a diet...

...Really I eat chicken and some days, steak others. My meals consist of a variety of food the combination being meat/poltry/fish with vegetables. Some day I get take out (General Tso's Chicken is amazing) sometimes it's TV dinners.

My dad eats a diet similar to a stereotypical American diet. Meat at almost every meal, bacon, pork chops, steak, burgers. He eats potato's in many forms and drinks coke all of the time. He is about 50 and he is just now starting to develop diabetes because of all of the pop he drinks. He isn't fat in the least and is healthy in almost every regard.

How does he do it? He is one of the people you see digging a hole outside to lay fiber optics, the poor sap reattaching fiber optics in the middle of a blizzard so you can use the internet, and he works 10+ hours a day. Because he keeps active he can eat a high calorie diet with fatty foods and be fine, although the pop is coming back to get him. The problem is this diet tends to persist even if they get promoted to the office and it is passed down to their children, which will get fat unless they are doing the same type of work.

Here goes what I eat all day:
a cup of milk with 2 cookies or at times cereal, w/e I feel like eating at 12pm..which isn't a lot since it's school food and that sh*t's nasty as f*ck..and when I come home, we always eat home made food.
It repeats everyday so o_o
I don't think I'm fat xd

Exactly. That's why I don't take stock in that percentage.

Either way, whatever counts as obese, US have them the most (or 3rd most). Or do you mean most of the obese ones in US are just persons with a lot of muscle compared to bodyweight and that the same doesn't apply in the rest of the world? I think if there's a failure in system it's like that all over the world. So every other country can still come up with that "excuse" but US still has almost the highest numbers of them.

Ehh... Screw the rest of the USA I personally couldn't care less about the rest as long as I stay fit I'm good.

Do you even know what visceral fat is?

From looking through this thread I can see that many people think that,as long as you exercise, you can eat whatever you want....NOT TRUE!!

Your body uses whatever you put into it. Some people will store fat in obvious places that can be easily seen and you may call them fat.
Others store fat around their organs, this is visceral fat and it is the most dangerous kind. They may appear slim or skinny but they will have a long list of sh*t that will go wrong with them all at once.

America: You and the rest of the world know what and how you should eat to stay healthy. Healthy isn't about how you look,it's about what goes on inside your body. You know that eating fatty foods which should make you fat/unhealthy is bad for you,yet tell urselves that as long as you exercise and look good, that you're ok.

The above is the reason why Americans are so fat and also why they have really low life expectancies. Take better care of yourselves, inside and out. When you get older, you will appreciate not overloading ur systems.

I'm 23.
I'm 83kg's.
I have a 14% Body fat percentage.
I can run 10-15km's no worries.
I am a boxing coach,and fitness trainer.

Yet,I know that even if I do all the exercise in the world,if I eat total crap, then I will start to deteriorate. It may not show at first or even for a while. But my calcium levels will drop, which means weaker bones. My protein intake could be too high, which would result in shot kidneys and I would develop system failure and high blood pressure.

There's a huge selection of reasons to look after urself in many respects. Eat well and keep active. It's been said a million times before but the point still seems to hit a brick wall.
