Chapter 15: Wedding Crashers
“So then did it work for him?” Elizabeth asked as she tried to milk more information from Anilla.
“More so than we could have asked for.” She said as her body trembled nervously. “He is the reason why our family was hunted. He became obsessed with the ritual and power fueled his motives as he set out to find the strongest men, just to sacrifice them in the end. The more he practiced the ritual, the darker his soul seemed to be colored, if he still had one at that point.” She shuddered at the thought. “Everyone thought he traded his soul away for unimaginable power, long ago, and that’s what led him to the abomination he became. Nobody knew what to do, so we ran leaving him behind, desperately looking for a safe haven where he couldn’t find us.”
“So then he is the cause of why your whole family was ordered to be executed?” Elizabeth asked knowingly.
She nodded, “Yes he became a monster and people feared us for it, though no one knew how he became as such, since we kept the rituals a secret. Nobody was aware of the terrible things he did and those that did know were determined to keep it safe so we wouldn’t be persecuted for appalling actions that we didn’t do.” She said sadly as tears ran down her cheeks.
Elizabeth felt her chest ache at the sight Gabriel’s mother was in. “Calm down.” She said softly, whipping the tears away from her flushed cheeks. “You said he was dead though right?”
Anilla bobbed her head, “Yes, but it still doesn’t help that my family is gone.”
“At least you have Gabriel.” Elizabeth smiled sympathetically. “He is such a great kid as well, you should be proud that you raised a fine son.”
Anilla grinned and hugged Elizabeth firmly, “Thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome.” She beamed as she rubbed her back, trying to ease all the sadness that welled up inside Anilla.
“Well then let’s get you ready for your wedding tomorrow.” Anilla cooed, as she went over to the ugly dress.
Elizabeth sighed, walked over to the windowsill, and took a seat on it so she could watch the wind blow the tree’s leaves. She saw a shadowy figure creep in the cover of darkness, so she strained her eyes to get them to focus better. She spotted Vincent with the other two, “Anilla come here!” She squeaked joyfully.
Anilla rushed over to her side quickly just to catch a glimpse of Gabriel before they returned to the veil of darkness. “Gabriel.” She cried happily. “Where are they going?” She asked worriedly.
Elizabeth smirked, “Seems like we will have some party crashers tomorrow.”
“Why don’t they break you free now?”
“Even if they wanted to, they couldn’t we are caged in here like animals. Not to mention it would take days to find us. This castle is too big for a search and rescue. They will have to wait for the wedding tomorrow when we will be out in the open. That means Trevor lost to Vincent.” She exhaled in relief as a smile crept onto her face.
“Well then we should prepare you for tomorrow then.” Anilla smiled tenderly.
“Of course.” Elizabeth agreed.
~The next morning~
Elizabeth was all dressed and had her hair up in a tight bun, seeing as she refused her hair to be done up in any other way. She had her knives strapped to her thigh like usual as she decided to go along with the plan of getting married to draw attention to herself, so the others could crash the wedding.
There was a knock on the door a few moments after she was all dressed and prepared for the events that were going to occur shortly. “Elizabeth are you ready yet?” A guard asked in a bored tone.
“One second.” Elizabeth called out as Anilla finished putting some blush on her cheeks. “Be safe Vincent.” Elizabeth whispered softly as she closed her eyes.
~With Vincent and the other two~
“Get your butt out of my face!” Sophia hissed at Gabriel.
“Sophia stop, this tunnel is crammed enough.” Vincent said as he rubbed his temples in an annoyed fashion. The two had been giving him a headache ever since they entered the secret passage. “We are almost there.” He muttered as he continued to walk forward.
“Why didn’t we just get our hands on an invitation?” Sophia asked irritably.
“Why didn’t you just stay behind if you were going to bitch so much?” Vincent shot back. “We’ve already been through this; we wouldn’t make it past the doors.”
Soft music filled the air and Gabriel stopped, “Sound like we are close.”
“Yes and from the sound of the music, they are probably starting it soon. We should hurry and get their right away!” Vincent urged as he quickly maneuvered through the narrow passage, his mind drifting to Elizabeth. His heart began to pound anxiously in his chest as anxiety poured into him, making it hard for him to breathe. He wanted nothing more to hold her in his arms again, but most of all he needed her to be safe.
“Vincent, wait up!” The other two shouted from behind as they pushed and elbowed the other, striving to catch up.
Vincent’s leg started to burn with pain, but he pushed it into the back of his mind as he increased his speed, reaching the end of the never ending passage in a matter of moments. He turned to see the other two were no longer in sight, but he couldn’t waste any more time as he pulled down a lever, magically opening the door that held him captive in the passage.
Vincent hastily rushed through the hallways that were decorated with many garlands of flowers and rose petals in the hall ways. He felt panic build up in his chest as anxiety enveloped his mind. He came to two large wooden doors that were closed, making the anxiety develop more. He tugged on the knob, trying to open it, but it was locked from the other side. “What the hell?” Vincent muttered as he pulled on the door a few more times.
“It’s locked?” Gabriel panted as he came to a halt.
“Is it that obvious?” Vincent asked irritably.
“So then Elizabeth is already in there then.” Sophia whispered.
“No shit Sherlock!” Vincent growled out as he looking for anything he could use to bring the door down. “Screw it.” He said as he lifted his leg and smashed it against the door, making the wood whine in protest. He did it two more times, using his raging emotions as fuel to add more power to the kicks; making the door finally crumble to the floor in broken pieces.
“Couldn’t we have just picked the lock?” Sophia asked as they stepped around the wood that lay lifelessly on the ground.
Everyone turned to look at the intruders as Vincent fumed with anger seeing Oswald holding Elizabeth. “How dare you interfere this sacred ceremony!” Oswald hissed out as he tightened his grasp on Elizabeth.
“Get your hand off me before I break it.” Elizabeth said in an empty tone, trying to keep her hold on the bouquet of roses in her left hand.
The prince ignored Elizabeth’s demands and glared hatefully at Vincent, “Guards kill him!”
Elizabeth smiled sweetly as she watched Vincent cut effortlessly through the guards that rushed forward to him. He wore an unreadable mask as he skillfully swung his sword through them and then jumped over the dead bodies that fell at his feet in a cool manner. "Vincent!" She called out in relief, feeling giddy to see her rescuer.
Oswald shuddered with anger as he watched his guard’s body’s drop to the floor limply. He grabbed Elizabeth out of fury, holding her close to him and placed a dagger to her throat. He threw logic out the window as he gave into raw instinct. "Come any closer and I will slit your little girlfriend's throat." Oswald snarled as he held the dagger nearer so it was easily kissing her skin.
Vincent stopped as the last guard fell to the ground surrounded by the blood that quickly gushed out from his throat. "You really are gutsy enough to hold a blade to that woman's throat?" Vincent asked as his eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. Rage quickly swallowed his being as Vincent kept a calm appearance. Nobody dared hold a blade to Elizabeth's throat, especially since he was always able to stop it.
Elizabeth smirked, reading the hate in Vincent's eyes as she thrusted her heel in the prince's groin and pulled the blade away from her neck effortlessly. "You bitch!" Oswald screamed out as he curled into a ball on the floor, holding himself.
"Well let's just call that pay back for your means of slow torture the other day." Elizabeth smirked as she twirled the dagger between her fingers. "I should end your life right where you lay." She glared harshly.
“You really enjoy doing that don’t you?” Vincent asked in an emotionless tone.
Elizabeth laughed, “Yes I kind of do.”
"No please, don't!" The prince begged, getting on his hands and knees. He grabbed onto her big fluffy dress and cried out, "I will do-" A trail of blood ran down his chin as his head slid off from his neck, spraying Elizabeth's dress with the crimson liquid.
Elizabeth looked up to see a man standing a few feet in front of her. Her eyes widen as she took in his appearance and also from his menacing actions. He was well over six feet tall as he towered over her, even from a distance, making an ominous feeling surge up inside her. Her gaze trailed up to his face, taking in the rags that hugged his well-toned masculine body. Her stare trailed upwards to his face, stopping to see his flawless sculpted chin and once her gaze caught his, she froze in place. His eyes were jet black, full of darkness, and showing no white in them at all. She felt her body quiver as her breathe became heavy, she couldn’t look away.
Before she could contemplate more on the matter, she felt herself embraced in warmth and was no longer looking at the strange man. “You’re safe now.” Vincent said lovingly, holding her close to his body.
It was odd for him to see Elizabeth in such a vulnerable state and he wanted nothing more to hold her in his arms like he was holding her now. Elizabeth rested her head on his shoulder and clutched a fist ful of his shirt in her hand. She closed her eyes as she spoke ever so softly, “Thank you Vincent.”
“Of course.” He replied as he turned his attention from her to the abomination standing over the prince’s body, not at all carrying about the puddle of blood he was standing in. Sophia and Gabriel were both in shock as well as they watched the event’s unfold in front of them, unsure of what to say or what to do. “I have to put you down now Elizabeth.” Vincent said as he bent down and placed her fragile body down on the ground.
“Vincent, he’s not human, please be careful.” She pleaded as her eyes were clouded with worry.
“Don’t worry about me.” He smiled softly at her and leaned in to kiss her forehead. He stood to his feet after, not wanting to keep Elizabeth in harm’s way any longer as he stepped over her body and walked towards the demon that stood in front of them. “I won’t allow any harm to come to you Elizabeth.” Elizabeth turned away from Vincent as guilt built up inside her. She didn’t want Vincent to always protect her, but she knew that she would be unable to stop him. Vincent didn’t wait for a response from her as he drew his swords from their sheath and charged towards the atrocity who was now smirking a sinister grin.
