Wasn't there something about sasuke's mom knowing when naruto was going to be born?
What if she told her husband who then attacked the village that night thinking homage would be preoccupied. i know this is a stretch but it kinda fits.

Last time I checked, Kushina didn't tell Sasuke's Mom where they were going. Not to mention, Sasuke's Father is a ninja. He might have been fighting Kurama at that time.

i disagree Tobi is important to the plot and his mask is a big part of it, he hides his face for a reason. the author is so detailed oriented that I don't think he would slap a mask on the main bad guy for no reason. its a classic comic book tool to keep the villains identity hidden to create suspense, or allow the villains face to be shown throughout and make it memorable: i.e. joker, my avitar, etc - the villains face is always disfigured and iconic.

Tobi's name is Nagato... The Nagato that Edo Madara spoke of when he was summoned. I believe him to be the soul of that man with a body like White Zetsu's since we've already seen him rip his arm off and it was a liquidy substance.

Itachi was the ultimate double agent - and if his father was leading the coupe de et then lost his next logical move is to create a super squad and try again. It seems like Danzo was in the know on tobi's plans and abilities, not intell he gained but had known from when tobi was the police chief.

I think at some point if in fact it were Sasuke's father.. we would have heard of any kind of above average talent about the man.... Although it could be another Kabuto case, hiding his true abilities through the years.. though.. seems very doubtful...

I'm so sick of all the tobi is... Threads. No one knows who he is. So until we actually know more about him, tobi is just tobi. Maybe he does have a secret identity of someone we have seen before in the manga or maybe he truly is a "no one" like he said he was

Sasuke was coming back home one night when he saw the streets filled with dead uchiha. He ran to his home and when he was there he heard something from a room. Then he proceeded to open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur!

, end of the first paragraph. The last "Uchiha" word links to Tobi's page. This happened in chapter 364 but Itachi actually said "He's not dead yet... and besides...", then on the panel below we see "the storm... has passed."

If we were to believe narutopedia, Tobi is an Uchiha. If we were not, then we should keep guessing!
